3.3L & 3.8L Engines

Specific to:

Chrysler Town & Country 2008-2009

Dodge Grand Caravan 2008-2009

CAUTION
Power steering fluid, engine parts, and the exhaust system may be extremely hot if the engine has been running. Do not start the engine with any loose or disconnected hoses. Do not allow the hoses to touch a hot exhaust manifold or catalyst.

CAUTION
The fluid level should be checked with the engine OFF to prevent personal injury from moving parts.

WARNING
When the system is open, cap all open ends of the hoses, power steering pump fittings, or power steering gear ports to prevent entry of foreign material into the components.

WARNING
When servicing power steering components, do not pinch off the power steering hoses in any way to stop the fluid flow. Damage to the hoses may result.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the negative (-) battery cable from the battery and isolate the cable.
  4.
  5. Remove the cap from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  6.
  7. Using a siphon pump, remove as much power steering fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  8.
  9. Remove the clamp, then the supply hose from the pump.
  10.
  11. Unthread the tube nut and remove the pressure hose from the pump.
  12.
  13. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts, removal & installation.
  14.
  15. Remove the 3 pump mounting bolts (1) through the pump pulley.
  16.
  17. Remove the power steering pump (2) from the engine compartment.

  18.

To install:

  1. Position the power steering pump (2) on the engine.
  2.
  3. Install the 3 power steering pump mounting bolts (1) using the openings in the pulley. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.
  5. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts, removal & installation.
    NOTE
Before installing the power steering pressure hose on the power steering pump, replace the O-ring on the end of the power steering pressure hose. Lubricate the O-ring using clean power steering fluid.

  6.
  7. Install the pressure hose into the pump fitting. Thread the pressure hose tube nut into the pump and tighten to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  8.
  9. Slide the fluid supply hose onto the pump fitting and install the clamp securing it in place.
  10.
  11. Connect the negative (-) battery cable on the negative battery post. Tighten the nut to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  12.
  13. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  14.
  15. Inspect for leaks.
