3.3L & 3.8L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the spark plug wire. The resistance should be according to the following ignition cable resistance table.
  4.
  5. Inspect the wires for cuts, cracks, and abrasion. Replace as necessary.

Removal & Installation

3.3L & 3.8L Engines

Specific to:

Chrysler Town & Country 2008-2009

Dodge Grand Caravan 2008-2009

When removing spark plug wires, work on one at a time. Don't start by removing the plug wires all at once, because, unless they are numbered, they may become mixed up. Use tape to number the wires as necessary.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable at the battery.
    CAUTION
Always turn the engine OFF and disconnect the battery prior to servicing the spark plug wires. Do not attempt to remove a spark plug wire while the motor is running. Failure to follow these directions may result in serious or fatal injury.

  4.
  5. Remove the spark plug wire from the coil first.
    NOTE
Always remove the spark plug wire by grasping the top of the spark plug insulator, turning the boot 1 / 2 turn, and pulling straight up in a steady motion.

  6.

To install:

NOTE
When replacing the spark plug wires, route the wires correctly and secure them in the appropriate retainers. Failure to route the wires properly can cause the radio to reproduce ignition noise, cross ignition of the spark plugs, or short circuit the cables to ground.

  1. Install the ignition cables over the spark plugs. An audible click noise can be heard and felt when the ignition cable is properly attached to the spark plug.
  2.
  3. Connect the spark plug wire to the coil.
  4.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  6.

4.0L Engine

Specific to:

Chrysler Town & Country 2008-2009

Dodge Grand Caravan 2008-2009

The 4.0L engine uses a coil-on-plug design eliminating the need for spark plug wires.
