Adjustment



The wheel bearings are not adjustable. If a wheel bearing is out of specification, it must be replaced. Using a dial indicator, check for looseness. If it exceeds 0.005 in. (0.127mm) on drum or disc brakes the bearing wear is excessive and the hub and bearing should be replaced.

Removal & Installation



The rear wheel bearing/hub is integrated into one unit. The unit is non-serviceable. If the hub or bearing is damaged, the complete hub and bearing unit must be replaced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum, if equipped
     
    Rear caliper and bracket, if equipped
     
    Brake rotor, if equipped
     
    Antilock Brake System (ABS) Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) electrical connector
     
    Rear wheel hub to knuckle bolts
     
    Parking brake lever bracket and parking brake actuator
     
    Rear wheel hub from the knuckle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Parking brake lever bracket and actuator
     
    Hub and bearing assembly and torque the bolts to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm)
     
    WSS electrical connector
     
    Brake rotor, if equipped
     
    Brake caliper with the bracket
     
    Brake drum, if equipped
     
    Rear wheel

  3. A 4-wheel alignment is recommended after any steering/suspension repairs have been performed.
