Operation

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

The Camshaft Position (CMP) actuator system is an electro-hydraulic operated device used for a variety of engine performance and operational enhancements. These enhancements include lower emission output through exhaust gas dilution of the intake charge in the combustion chamber, a broader engine torque range, and improved fuel economy. The CMP actuator system accomplishes this by changing the angle or timing of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft position. The CMP actuator simply allows earlier or later intake and exhaust valve opening during the four stroke engine cycle. The CMP actuator cannot vary the duration of valve opening, or the valve lift.

Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the Camshaft Position (CMP) actuator solenoid valve.
  2.
  3. Remove the CMP actuator solenoid valve bolt.
  4.
  5. Remove the CMP actuator solenoid valve from the cylinder head.
  6.
  7. Discard the O-ring seal.
  8.
  9. Clean debris from the hole.
  10.

To install:

  1. Install a new O-ring seal to the actuator solenoid valve.
  2.
  3. Lightly lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
  4.
  5. Install the CMP actuator solenoid valve into the cylinder head.
  6.
  7. Install the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve bolt.
  8.
  9. Tighten the CMP actuator solenoid valve bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
  10.
  11. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the CMP actuator solenoid valve.
  12.
