Removal & Installation



Front Driveshaft

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Place the transmission in neutral.
  2.  
  3. Release the park brake, if applied.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Mark the front universal joint to the drive shaft flange.

  9. Remove the retaining bolts and straps.

  11. Remove the propeller shaft from the front pinion drive flange.
  12.  
  13. Remove the propeller shaft retaining bolts.

  15. Remove the propeller shaft/CV joint from the transmission/transfer case flange.
  16.  
  17. Using tape or a rubber band, wrap the U-Joint bearing caps to ensure the bearing caps do not separate from the U-Joint.

To install:

  1. Remove the tape or rubber band from the U-Joint.
  2.  
  3. Position the propeller shaft/CV joint to the transmission/transfer case.
  4.  
  5. Install the propeller shaft/CV joint retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Align the propeller shaft with the reference marks on the pinion flange.
  8.  
  9. Install the straps and retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  

Rear Driveshaft

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Place the transmission in neutral.
  2.  
  3. Release the park brake, if applied.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Mark the rear universal joint to the drive shaft flange.

  9. Remove the retaining bolts and clamps.

  11. Remove the propeller shaft from the pinion drive flange.
  12.  
  13. Remove the propeller shaft from the transmission/transfer case.
  14.  
  15. Using tape or a rubber band, wrap the U-Joint bearing caps to ensure the bearing caps do not separate from the U-Joint.

To install:

  1. Remove the tape or rubber band from the U-Joint.
  2.  
  3. Install the propeller shaft in the transmission/transfer case.
  4.  
  5. Align the propeller shaft with the reference marks on the pinion flange.
  6.  
  7. Install the clamps and retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
