Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the fan shroud.
    1. Remove the radiator hose-inlet.
    2.  
    3. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the fan shroud retainer.
    4.  
    5. Rotate the slip ring from under the fan shroud.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the cam sensor electrical connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the fan shroud.
    10.

  3. Using fan clutch remover and installers (J 41240 and J 46406), loosen the fan clutch.

  5. Remove the fan hub nut in a counterclockwise rotation.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cooling fan from the fan clutch.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan to the fan clutch.
    CAUTION
    Do not use or attempt to repair a damaged cooling fan assembly. Replace damaged fans with new assemblies. An unbalanced cooling fan could fly apart causing personal injury and property damage.

  2.  
  3. Install the J 46406 and the J 41240 to the fan clutch.
  4.  
  5. Install the fan hub nut to the pulley and hand tighten in a clockwise rotation. Tighten the fan clutch nut clockwise to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the fan shroud.
  8.  

5.3L Engine



Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fan shroud.
    1. Drain the cooling system.
    2.  
    3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
    4.  
    5. Unclip the lower section of the shroud assembly from the upper shroud for removal.
    6.  
    7. Remove the radiator inlet hose.
    8.  
    9. Remove the radiator outlet hose retainers.
    10.  
    11. Remove the A/C line retainers and reposition.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the fan shroud tab.

    15. Remove the fan shroud from the vehicle.
    16.

  5. Using fan clutch remover and installers (J 41240 and EN-48543), loosen the fan clutch.
    NOTE
    If additional clearance is needed between tools substitute 10 / 32 thread 1 / 2 inch set screws on EN-48543 for the socket head cap screws as supplied, use thread lock if needed.

  7. Remove the fan hub nut in a counterclockwise rotation.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cooling fan from the fan clutch.

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan to the fan clutch.
    CAUTION

  3. Install the EN-48543 and the J 41240 to the fan clutch.
  4.  
  5. Install the fan hub nut to the pulley and hand tighten in a clockwise rotation. Tighten the fan clutch nut clockwise to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the fan shroud.
  8.  
  9. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
  10.
