3.5L & 3.7L Engines

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the hood.

  3. Recover the A/C system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the battery box.
  8.  
  9. Drain the engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Remove the outlet radiator hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cooling fan.
  16.  
  17. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
  20.  
  21. Position the J 38185 to the clamp in order to remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing.

  23. Remove the washer solvent container/coolant recovery reservoir mounting bolts ONLY, in order to gain clearance to remove the engine wiring harness.

  25. Disconnect the 2 engine wiring harness connectors from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

  27. Remove the engine wiring harness clips from the wheelhouse.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers from the power steering pump.

  31. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connectors from the following components:

    The electric motor actuator connector
     
    The oil pressure switch

  33. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the camshaft cover.

  35. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connectors from the following components:

    The exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor
     
    The exhaust camshaft actuator

  37. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connectors from the following components:

    The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
     
    The fuel injector harness
     
    The ignition coils
     
    The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)

  39. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the camshaft cover.

  41. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connector from the throttle body.

  43. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connector from the intake CMP sensor.

  45. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover.

  47. Remove the transmission filler tube, if equipped.

  49. Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor evaporator hose bracket bolt from the cylinder head.

  51. Drain the engine oil, if necessary.

  53. Remove the studs securing the secondary Air Injection (AIR) pipe cover to the cylinder head.

  55. Remove the AIR pipe cover and gasket. Discard the gasket.
  56.  
  57. Install the J 44220 in place of the AIR adapter.

  59. Disconnect the inlet heater hose quick connect from the heater core, and secure to the engine.

  61. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts ONLY, and position aside.

  63. Remove the right engine mount-to-frame bracket bolt.

  65. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the engine wiring harness bracket.

  67. Position the engine wiring harness aside.
  68.  
  69. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the fuel rail.
  70.  
  71. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) pipe at the purge solenoid.
  72.  
  73. Remove the oil level indicator and tube.
  74.  
  75. Remove the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
  76.  
  77. Disconnect the MAP sensor wiring harness retainer from the intake manifold.
  78.  
  79. Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the wiring harnesses through the wheelhouse.
  80.  
  81. Remove the A/C condenser line bolt at the A/C compressor, remove the line from the compressor, if equipped.

  83. Remove the A/C evaporator line bolt at the A/C compressor, remove the line from the compressor, if equipped.

  85. Remove the A/C compressor bolts and compressor, if equipped.

  87. Disconnect the following wiring harness retainers from the engine wiring harness bracket:

    The battery cable
     
    The engine
     
    The MAP sensor

  89. Remove the starter solenoid "S" terminal nut and disconnect the lead from the starter.

  91. Remove the starter terminal nut and disconnect the battery positive cable from the starter.

  93. Remove the bolt securing the battery negative cable ground terminal to the engine block.

  95. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connector from the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.

  97. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connector) from the #2 Knock Sensor (KS).

  99. Disconnect the coolant heater cord from the coolant heater, if equipped.

  101. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers from the A/C compressor and the engine oil pan rail.

  103. Position the J 38185 to the clamp in order to remove the heater outlet hose from the heater outlet hose fitting.

  105. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connector from the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.

  107. Raise the vehicle completely.
  108.  
  109. Remove the 3 bolts securing the engine wiring ground leads to the engine block.

  111. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the engine oil pan rail.
  112.  
  113. Position the engine wiring harness aside.
  114.  
  115. Disconnect the fuel line clips from the brackets on the transmission.

  117. Remove the crossmember.
  118.  
  119. Remove the front propeller shaft.
  120.  
  121. Remove the differential carrier assembly bushing to frame bolts ONLY.

  123. Position the differential carrier assembly forward.
  124.  
  125. Secure the pinion yoke, in order to prevent the differential carrier from rotating.
  126.  
  127. Remove the exhaust seal.
  128.  
  129. Remove the bolt securing the transmission oil cooler pipe bracket to the right side of the engine oil pan rail (automatic only).
