Removal & Installation



3.5L & 3.7L Engines

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the clutch assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove and discard the flywheel bolts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the flywheel.

To install:

  1. Position the flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Install the new flywheel bolts and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm) plus an additional 45 degrees using the J 45059.
  4.  
  5. Install the clutch assembly.
  6.  

5.3L Engine

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the transmission.
    NOTE
    Note the position and direction of the engine flywheel before removal.

  2.  
  3. Remove and discard the flywheel bolts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the flywheel.
  6.  
  7. Clean and inspect the flywheel.

To install:


NOTE
The flywheel does not use a locating pin for alignment and will not initially seat against the crankshaft flange, but will be pulled onto the crankshaft by the engine flywheel bolts. This procedure requires a three stage tightening process.

  1. Install the engine flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Apply thread lock to the threads of the flywheel bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine flywheel bolts:

    Tighten the bolts a first pass in sequence to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
     
    Tighten the bolts a second pass in sequence to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Tighten the bolts a final pass in sequence to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).

  7. Install the transmission.
