Wheel Hubs & Bearings

Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Never place vehicle on the ground with the halfshaft removed or the halfshaft nut torqued improperly. Otherwise, bearing seals may become dislodged causing premature wear and/or damage to the hub and bearing assembly.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rotor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining nut and washer for the wheel drive shaft.
    NOTE
    For the following service step, the wheel drive shaft does not have to be removed from the vehicle, just reposition to gain access to the mounting bolts for the wheel hub.

  11. Remove the wheel driveshaft from the wheel hub and bearing.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the wheel hub and bearing and splash shield from the vehicle.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Clean all corrosion or contaminates from the steering knuckle bore and the hub and bearing assembly.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate the steering knuckle bore with wheel bearing grease or the equivalent.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel hub and bearing and splash shield in the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts. Tighten the wheel hub to knuckle bolts to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel drive shaft in the steering knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Install the nut and washer retaining the wheel drive shaft assembly. Tighten the nut to 173 ft. lbs. (235 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the wheel speed sensor.
  14.  
  15. Install the rotor.
  16.  
  17. Install the tire and wheel.
