Removal & Installation



3.5L & 3.7L Engines

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge pipe from the throttle control module.

  5. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector (2).

  7. Remove the throttle body bolts.

  9. Remove the throttle body and the seal from the intake manifold.
  10.  
  11. Clean the gasket surface.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Insert a new seal into the intake manifold groove.
  2.  
  3. Position the throttle body to the intake manifold.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body bolts. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the throttle body electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Connect the EVAP canister purge pipe to the throttle control module.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
  12.  

5.3L Engine

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010


NOTE
Handle the electronic throttle control components carefully. Use cleanliness in order to prevent damage. Do not drop the electronic throttle control components. Do not roughly handle the electronic throttle control components. Do not immerse the electronic throttle control components in cleaning solvents of any type.


CAUTION
DO NOT for any reason, insert a screwdriver or other small hand tools into the throttle body to hold open the throttle plate, as the wedge inside the throttle body could be damaged.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the throttle body bolts and nuts.

  7. Remove the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Remove and discard the throttle body seal.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install a NEW throttle body gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body bolts and nuts. Tighten the bolts/nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
  10.  
  11. Perform the throttle learn procedure.

Throttle Learn Procedure



Learn Procedure (Performed After The ECM Is Flashed Or Replaced)

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010


NOTE
Do NOT perform this procedure if DTCs are set.

  1. Start and idle the engine for 3 minutes.
  2.  
  3. With a scan tool, monitor the Desired Idle Speed and the actual Engine Speed.
  4.  
  5. The ECM will start to learn the new idle cells and Desired Idle Speed should start to decrease.
  6.  
  7. Ignition OFF for 60 seconds.
  8.  
  9. Start and idle the engine for 3 minutes.
  10.  
  11. After the 3 minute run time the engine should be idling normal.
    NOTE
    During the drive cycle the check engine light may come on with idle speed DTCs. If idle speed codes are set, clear codes so the ECM can continue to learn. If the engine idle speed has not been learned the vehicle will need to be driven at speeds above 44 mph (70 km/h) with several decelerations and extended idles.

  13. After the drive cycle, the engine should be idling normally. If the engine idle speed has not been learned, turn OFF the ignition for 60 seconds and repeat step 6.

  15. Once the engine speed has returned to normal, clear DTCs and return to the diagnostic that referred you here.

Reset Procedure (Performed After The Throttle Body Is Cleaned Or Replaced)

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Ignition ON, engine OFF, perform the Idle Learn Reset in Module Setup with a scan tool.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and monitor the TB Idle Airflow Compensation parameter. The TB Idle Airflow Compensation value should equal 0 percent and the engine should be idling at a normal idle speed.
  4.  
  5. Clear the DTCs and return to the diagnostic that referred you here.
