Power Steering Gear Inlet & Outlet Hoses



3.5L & 3.7L Engines

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove as much power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  2.  
  3. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.
    CAUTION
    Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.

  5. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose from the power steering pump and power steering fluid reservoir assembly.

  7. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bracket bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose retaining plate bolt.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose from the steering gear.

  13. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose from the vehicle.
    NOTE
    Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports thoroughly of any debris. Failure to do so could result in contamination and damage to the power steering system components.

  15. Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose ports at the steering gear of any debris.
  16.  
  17. Transfer any parts as needed.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose to the vehicle.
    1. If power steering gear inlet and outlet hose seal replacement is needed, remove the steering gear from the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose seals from the steering gear using remover J 44586.
    4.  
    5. Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose ports at the steering gear of any debris.
    6.  
    7. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose seals to the steering gear using installer J 44586.
    8.  
    9. Install the steering gear.
    10.

  3. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose retaining plate bolt. Tighten the bolt to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bracket bolts.
  6.  
  7. Connect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose to the power steering pump and power steering fluid reservoir assembly. Tighten the fitting to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle and remove the drain pans.
  10.  
  11. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  12.  

5.3L Engine

Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove as much power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine shield.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan skid plate.
  6.  
  7. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose from the power steering pump and power steering fluid reservoir assembly.

  11. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bracket bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose retaining plate bolt.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose from the steering gear and remove it from the vehicle.

  17. Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose ports at the steering gear of any debris.
  18.  
  19. Transfer any parts as needed.

To install:

  1. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose to the vehicle and connect it to the steering gear.
  2.  
  3. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose retaining plate bolt. Tighten the bolt to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bracket bolts. Tighten the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose to the power steering pump and power steering fluid reservoir assembly.
  8.  
  9. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle and remove the drain pans.
  10.  
  11. Install the oil pan skid plate.
  12.  
  13. Install the engine shield.
  14.  
  15. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  16.
