3.5L & 3.7L Engines



Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Drain the coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fan.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Using the fan and clutch remover and installer (J 46406), secure the water pump pulley and remove the water pump pulley bolts.

  8.  
  9. Remove the J 46406.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove the water pump bolts.

  15. Remove the water pump.
  16.  
  17. Clean and inspect the water pump.
  18.  
  19. Discard the gasket.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install a new water pump gasket.
  2.  
  3. Position the water pump to the engine.
  4.  
  5. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the water pump pulley.
  8.  
  9. Install the water pump pulley bolts.
  10.  
  11. Using the J 46406, secure the water pump pulley while tightening the water pump pulley bolts. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Remove the J 46406.
  14.  
  15. Install the drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Install the fan.
  18.  
  19. Fill the cooling system with the specified coolant and concentration.
  20.  
  21. Inspect for leaks.
  22.  

5.3L Engine



Specific to:

Hummer H3 2006-2010

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Reposition the radiator vent inlet hose clamp at the coolant air bleed pipe fitting.

  7. Remove the radiator vent inlet hose from the coolant air bleed pipe fitting.
  8.  
  9. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the water pump.

  10.  
  11. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water pump.
  12.  
  13. Reposition the radiator inlet hose and vent inlet hose out of the way.
  14.  
  15. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the water pump.

  19. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the water pump.
  20.  
  21. Reposition the outlet hose out of the way.
  22.  
  23. Reposition the radiator surge tank outlet hose clamp at the water pump.

  25. Remove the radiator surge tank outlet hose from the water pump.
  26.  
  27. Reposition the outlet hose out of the way.
  28.  
  29. Reposition the heater inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
  30.  
  31. Remove the heater inlet hose from the water pump.
  32.  
  33. Reposition the inlet hose out of the way.
  34.  
  35. Remove the water pump bolts.

  37. Remove the water pump and gaskets. Discard the gaskets.
  38.  

To install:


NOTE
DO NOT use cooling system seal tabs, or similar compounds, unless otherwise instructed. The use of cooling system seal tabs, or similar compounds, may restrict coolant flow through the passages of the cooling system or the engine components. Restricted coolant flow may cause engine overheating and/or damage to the cooling system or the engine components/assembly.


NOTE
All gaskets surfaces are to be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.

  1. Position the water pump and NEW gaskets to the engine block.
  2.  
  3. Install the water pump bolts in two steps.
    1. Tighten the bolts a first pass to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the bolts a final pass to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    4.

  5. Position and install the heater inlet hose to the water pump.
  6.  
  7. Position the heater inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
  8.  
  9. Position and install the radiator surge tank outlet hose to the water pump.
  10.  
  11. Position the radiator surge tank outlet hose clamp at the water pump.
  12.  
  13. Position and install the radiator outlet hose to the water pump.
  14.  
  15. Position the radiator outlet hose clamp at the water pump.
  16.  
  17. Install the accessory drive belt.
  18.  
  19. Position the radiator inlet hose and vent inlet hose to the correct position.
  20.  
  21. Install the radiator inlet hose to the water pump.
  22.  
  23. Position the radiator inlet hose clamp at the water pump.
  24.  
  25. Install the radiator vent inlet hose to the coolant air bleed pipe fitting.
  26.  
  27. Position the radiator vent inlet hose clamp at the coolant air bleed pipe fitting.
  28.  
  29. Fill the cooling system.
  30.  
  31. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
  32.
