Fig. Fig. 1: Removing the exhaust manifold

  1. On 1975 and later models, disconnect the air injection tubes from the exhaust manifold, then, remove the air injection manifold.
  2.
  3. Remove the hot air cover-to-exhaust manifold bolts and the cover.
  4.
  5. Using a criss-cross pattern (starting from the center), remove the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts and the manifold.
  6.
  7. Using a putty knife, clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  8.
  9. To install, use new gaskets and reverse the removal procedure. Torque the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts (in equal steps) in the reverse order of removal.

Fig. Fig. 2: Exploded view exhaust manifold assembly-Accord and Prelude

  1. If equipped, remove the EGR and the air suction tubes from the exhaust manifold.
  2.
  3. Remove the exhaust manifold shroud.
  4.
  5. Remove the exhaust manifold bracket bolts.
  6.
  7. Using a criss-cross pattern (starting from the center), remove the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts, the manifold and the gaskets (discard them).
  8.
  9. Using a putty knife, clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  10.
  11. To install, use new gaskets and reverse the removal procedure. Torque the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts (using a criss-cross pattern, starting from the center) to 23 ft. lbs. and the header pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts to 40 ft. lbs., the oxygen sensor-to-exhaust manifold to 33 ft. lbs. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
