The regulator is a device which controls the output of the alternator. If the regulator did not limit the voltage output of the alternator, the excessive output could burn out components of the electrical system, as well as the alternator itself.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Except 1982-83 Accord

The regulator is inside the engine compartment, attached to the right fenderwell just above the battery.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Remove and label the regulator terminal lead wires to avoid confusion during installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the regulator retaining bolts and the regulator from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1982-83 Accord

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Remove the four main fuse plate retaining bolts and the main fuse plate to gain access to the solid state regulator.

  1. Remove the regulator terminal plug from the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Unscrew the regulator retaining bolts and remove the regulator from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
