Honda Accord/Civic/Prelude 1973-1983 Repair Guide

Fuel Filter

Print

All vehicles use a disposable type fuel filter which cannot be disassembled for cleaning. On 1973-74 models, the recommended replacement interval is 24,000 miles. On 1975-81 models, the filter is replaced after the first 15,000 miles, and every 30,000 miles thereafter. On 1982-83 models, the filter is replaced at 60,000 miles. Honda recommends that all rubber fuel hoses be replaced at the same time.

CAUTION
Before disconnecting any fuel lines, be sure to open the gas tank filler cap to relieve any pressure in the system. If this is not done, you may run the risk of being squirted with gasoline.

On 1975 CVCC Sedan models, the filter is located beneath a special access cover under the rear seat on the driver's side. The rear seat can be removed after removing the bolt at the rear center of the cushion and then pivoting the seat forward from the rear.
