Honda Accord/Prelude 1984-1995 Repair Guide

Pressure Relief Procedure

See Figure 1

The Honda anti-lock brake system contains brake fluid under extremely high pressure within the pump, accumulator and modulator assembly. Do not disconnect or loosen any lines, hoses, fittings or components without properly relieving the system pressure. Use tool 07HAA-SG00101 or equivalent to relieve pressure. Improper procedures or failure to discharge the system pressure may result in severe personal injury and/or property damage.

  1. Insure the ignition switch is OFF .
  3. Using a syringe or similar device, remove all the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir and the modulator reservoir.

Fig. Fig. 1: The shaded areas are under high pressure. Use only the correct tool to relieve the pressure

  1. Remove the red cover from the bleeder port on top of the pump assembly.
  3. Install the bleeding tool onto the bleeder. Make certain the reservoir cap on the tool is secured.
  5. Using the tool, turn the bleeder about 90 degrees to admit high pressure fluid into the reservoir. As the pressure drops, turn the bleeder open about 1 full turn to completely relieve the system.
  7. Retighten the bleeder to 4 ft. lbs. (5.5 Nm) and remove the tool. Discard the captured brake fluid; do not reuse it. Install the red cap on the bleeder port.
