Brake Light Switch

The brake switch operates the brake lights when the brakes are applied. A signal from the switch is also used to disengage the cruise control immediately after braking has begun.

To remove the switch, unplug the wiring connector, loosen the locknut and remove the switch. When reinstalling, adjust the switch with the locknut so that the switch engages within the first 1 / 2 in. (13mm) of pedal motion. If the switch is set to trip with no slack or free-play in its motion, a healthy bump in the road may disengage the cruise control and/or flicker the brake lights at the car behind you.
