REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1 and 2

1984-85 Accord and 1984-87 Prelude
  1. Pull back the rubber boot on the cable and loosen the locknut.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the cable end from the actuator rod.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the actuator cable from the center arm on the actuator.
  6.
  7. Turn the grommet 90 degrees in the firewall and remove the cable.
  8.
  9. Unplug the wire connector and vacuum hose.
  10.
  11. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the actuator.
  12.
  13. The solenoid valve assembly may be unbolted from the actuator if desired.
  14.

To install:
  1. Install the solenoid assembly if it was removed. Install the actuator and retaining bolts.
  2.
  3. Connect the wiring connector and vacuum hose(s).
  4.
  5. Install the cable. Connect it to the actuator bracket.
  6.
  7. Connect the cable to the actuator and adjust the cable. There should be less than 1 / 2 in. (13mm) of free-play in the cable. Tighten the locknut.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If so equipped, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
  2.
  3. Pull back the rubber boot on the cable and loosen the locknut. Disconnect the cable from the bracket.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the cable end from the actuator rod.
  6.
  7. Unplug the connector and disconnect the vacuum hose from the check valve. Free the ventilation hose from the grommet.
  8.
  9. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the actuator with the bracket and vacuum tank.
  10.
  11. If necessary, disconnect the cable end from the linkage over the accelerator pedal, then turn the grommet in the firewall 90 degrees and remove the cable.
  12.
  13. The solenoid valves may be removed from the actuator if desired.
  14.

To install:
  1. Install the solenoid assembly if it was removed. Install the actuator and vacuum tank.
  2.
  3. Connect the vacuum hose to the check valve. Fit the vent hose through the grommet and install the wire harness connector.
  4.
  5. Connect the cable end to the actuator rod. Connect the cable to the accelerator if it was removed.
  6.
  7. Check that the actuator cable moves smoothly with no binding.
  8.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. If applicable, enable the SRS.
  10.
  11. Start the engine. Measure the amount of movement of the actuator rod until the cable pulls on the accelerator linkage. (The engine speed will begin to increase). Correct free-play is 0.43 in. (11mm).
  12.
  13. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting nut as required to correct cable free-play.
  14.
  15. Retighten the locknut, then recheck the free-play.
  16.
  17. Test drive the vehicle to check the operation of the cruise control system.
