REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Front Mounted Manual Antenna
  1. Remove the radio and disconnect the antenna cable. On some models it may be possible to disconnect the antenna without removing the radio by reaching under and behind the dash.
  2.
  3. Remove the two antenna mounting screws on the roof.
  4.
  5. Tie a long piece of string or mechanic's wire to the end of the antenna cable.
  6.
  7. Slowly extract the antenna mast and cable from the pillar. An assistant may be helpful in directing the wire through the other harnesses under the dashboard.
  8.
  9. Remove the antenna cable completely; when the connector is clear of the roof, untie the string or wire leaving it in the pillar.
  10.

To install:
  1. Attach the pull string or wire to the connector on the antenna cable. Feed the cable down the roof pillar. Have an assistant pull gently on the string to guide it along.
  2.
  3. As the cable is pulled, fit the mast into the pillar. When properly positioned, install the retaining screws. The screws must be clean and tight for proper antenna function.
  4.
  5. Under the dash, route the antenna cable to the radio. Make certain the cable is routed out of the way of feet, pedals, steering column motion or other hazards.
  6.
  7. Connect the antenna to the radio and install the radio.
  8.

Front Mounted Power Antenna
MAST AND CABLE

The power antenna uses a plastic drive cable to raise and lower the mast. The cable is driven by the electric motor. There is a separate antenna cable running from the mast to the radio. During repairs, take care not to damage the cable or wiring.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON and fully extend the antenna. Turn the ignition OFF .
  2.
  3. If necessary for additional access, remove the 2 bolts securing the fusebox and lower the fusebox.
  4.
  5. Remove the clip that secures the antenna cable to the sheath.
  6.
  7. Remove the mounting nut and remove the antenna from its bracket.
  8.
  9. While lightly pulling the drive cable, operate the antenna motor until the drive cable is forced out.
  10.
  11. If the antenna and drive cable are to be replaced, tie a long string or wire to the cable end before pulling it out of the pillar. Leave the string in the pillar when the mast is removed.
  12.

To install:
  1. Extend the antenna and tie the string to the cable end and sheath. Pull the string through the pillar until it can be reached at the bottom.
  2.
  3. Remove the string and slide the sheath up enough to expose several inches of the drive cable.
  4.
  5. Insert the drive cable into the motor. Operate the motor to pull the drive cable into the motor housing.
  6.
  7. When the cable is retracted, attach the cable sheath to the motor and install the clip.
  8.
  9. If applicable, install the fusebox.
  10.

ANTENNA MOTOR
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Unplug the wiring connector from the motor. Disconnect the antenna lead.
  4.
  5. Remove the mounting nuts, then remove the motor.
  6.
  7. Reinstall in reverse order of removal.
  8.

Rear Mounted Power Antenna
MAST AND CABLE
  1. The mast can be replaced without removing the motor. Remove the special antenna nut, spacer and bushing at the base of the mast. Honda tool 07JAA-001000A or equivalent is recommended for turning the special nut.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON and operate the antenna, either by the switch or by turning the radio on.
  4.
  5. Allow the motor to expel the mast and cable from the bodywork. Pull up gently to assist the cable. Do not let the mast fall and damage the body or paint of the car.
  6.

To install:
  1. Install the new drive cable into the housing; the teeth of the cable must face the rear of the car. When the cable is fed into the housing, check that the teeth are engaged on the motor gear by gently moving the cable up and down; you should be able to feel the engagement.
  2.
  3. Operate the antenna by using the switch or turning the radio OFF . The motor will rewind, drawing the cable and mast into the housing. If the motor runs but does not engage the cable, the teeth are not engaged. Reset the motor to the up position. Twist the cable a small amount until the teeth are felt to engage, then use the motor to rewind the cable.
  4.
  5. Install the bushing, spacer and tighten the antenna nut.
  6.
  7. Operate the antenna several times, making sure the mast extends and retracts fully.
  8.

ANTENNA MOTOR
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the trunk side panel.
  4.
  5. Unplug the wiring connector from the motor. Disconnect the antenna lead.
  6.
  7. Remove the special nut, using Honda tool 07JAA-001000A or equivalent, then remove the two mounting nuts.
  8.
  9. Reinstall in reverse order. Tighten the special nut before tightening the two mounting nuts. Connect the wiring harness and antenna lead.
  10.
