REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1984-85 Accord
FRONT

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Remove the front seat.
  2.  
  3. For hatchbacks, remove the upper and lower quarter trim panels. On sedans, remove the center pillar lower trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper anchor bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the belt guide pin and nut.
  8.

  1. Remove the lower anchor bolt and retractor bolt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the seat belt assembly.
  4.

  1. Slide the front seat forward until the lower anchor bolt is accessible. Remove the bolt and the lower (latch) assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install in reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  4.  

REAR

See Figure 3

  1. Remove the rear seat.
  2.  
  3. For sedans, remove the rear door sill trim and remove the rear quarter panel trim. On hatchbacks, remove the upper and lower quarter trim panels.

  1. Remove the upper anchor bolt for the seat belt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower anchor and retractor nut. Remove the belt assembly.
  4.  
  5. At the floorpan under the seat, remove the anchor bolts for the latch assemblies; remove the belts.
  6.  
  7. Reassemble in reverse order. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  8.  

1986-89 Accord
SEDAN-FRONT

See Figure 4

  1. Remove the lower trim from the center pillar.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper anchor bolt, lower anchor bolt and the retractor bolt. Remove the seat belt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front seat.
  6.

  1. Disconnect the wiring, remove the anchor bolt and the latch.
  2.  
  3. Reassemble in reverse order. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  4.  

COUPE AND HATCHBACK-FRONT

See Figure 5

All Torx® bolts must be replaced after removal. Make certain the correct size and type are available before disassembly. Coat each new bolt with locking compound before installation.

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the shoulder belt studs and the shoulder belt bracket.
  4.

  1. Remove the two bolts and the belt guide.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two nuts and the lap belt bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the four nuts and the emergency locking retractors with the seat belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front seat. Unplug the wiring connector and remove the lower latch or anchor.
  8.  
  9. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  10.  

REAR

See Figure 6

  1. Remove the rear seat.
  2.  
  3. On sedans, remove the rear pillar trim panel. On coupes and hatchbacks, remove the quarter trim panel.

  1. Remove the upper and lower anchor bolts as well as the retractor bolt. Remove the belt assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove lower anchor bolt and remove the latch assembly.
  4.  
  5. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  6.  

1990-95 Accord and 1992-95 Prelude
FRONT

See Figure 7

  1. Disconnect the shoulder belt latch at the motorized track.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front seat. Before lifting the seat free, unplug the wiring connector for the seat belt winder.
  4.  
  5. Remove the covers from the shoulder belt assembly on the side of the seat; remove the retaining nuts and remove the assembly.
  6.

  1. To remove the lap belt assembly, remove the screw securing the side cover. Pry off the cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two retaining bolts and remove the lap belt assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal. The lap belt mounting bolts must be tightened to 29 ft. lbs. (40 Nm) and the retaining nuts for the shoulder belt assembly must be tightened to 25 ft. lbs. (35 Nm.)

REAR

See Figure 8

  1. Remove the rear seat.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear pillar trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower anchor bolts as well as the retractor bolt. Remove the belt assembly.

  1. Remove lower anchor bolt and remove the latch assembly.
  2.  
  3. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)

1984-87 Prelude
FRONT

See Figures 9 and 10

  1. Remove the rear quarter panel trim.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper anchor bolt for the seat belt.
  4.

  1. Remove the belt guide pin and bolt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower anchor and retractor nut. Remove the belt assembly.
  4.  
  5. At the floorpan under the seat, remove the anchor bolts for the latch assemblies; remove the belts.
  6.

  1. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Be sure to install the latch assemblies through the pockets in the seat. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)

REAR
  1. Remove the rear seat.
  2.  
  3. Remove the quarter trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower anchor bolts as well as the retractor bolt. Remove the belt assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove lower anchor bolt and remove the latch assembly.
  8.  
  9. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  10.  

1988-91 Prelude

All Torx® bolts must be replaced after removal. Make certain the correct size and type are available before disassembly. Coat each new bolt with locking compound before installation.

FRONT

See Figure 11

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the shoulder belt studs and the shoulder belt bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two bolts and the belt guide.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two nuts and the lap belt bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the four nuts and the emergency locking retractors with the seat belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front seat. Unplug the wiring connector and remove the lower latch or anchor.
  12.  
  13. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  14.  

REAR

See Figure 12

  1. Remove the rear seat.
  2.  
  3. Remove the quarter trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower anchor bolts as well as the retractor bolt. Remove the belt assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove lower anchor bolt and remove the latch assembly.
  8.  
  9. Reassemble in the reverse order of removal. Make absolutely certain the washers, collars and spacers are installed correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
