REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front

WARNING
Many electrical components are mounted on the floor under the seats. Do not damage the components during removal or installation of the seat.

  1. Slide the seat fully forward. In the rear passenger area, remove the covers from the two seat retaining bolts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolts.
  4.  
  5. Slide the seat fully to the rear. Remove the front mounting bolt covers and remove the bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the seat.
  8.  
  9. Reinstall in reverse order; tighten the seat rail mounting bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm.)
  10.  

Rear
1984-89 ACCORD

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. With your hands, press down on the seat cushion where it meets the seat back. Locate the retaining bolt(s.) Some models retain the seat with one bolt in the center; others use two, evenly spaced left and right.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retaining bolts.

  1. Lift the back of the seat upwards while rotating it to the front of the car.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the hooks at the front edge (during the rolling motion) of the seat and remove the seat bottom.
  4.  
  5. On hatchback Accords, remove the carpeting from the seat back.
  6.

  1. Remove the bolts securing the bottom of the seat back.
  2.  
  3. On 1984-85 Accord sedans, push against the middle of the seat back just below the top edge with one hand while pulling up firmly on the bottom edge with the other hand. This combined motion releases a J-shaped hook securing the seat back at each lower edge.
  4.  
  5. On 1986-89 Accord sedans, wiggle and lift the seat back upwards, releasing the upper hooks.
  6.  
  7. On hatchbacks, remove the clip pin at the outboard lower pivot of each seat. Remove the seat back
  8.  

To install:
  1. Fit the rear seat back into position, making sure all clips and retainers are firmly engaged.
  2.  
  3. Install the retaining bolts; tighten them to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm.)
  4.  
  5. Install the seat bottom. Start by fitting the front hooks in place, then roll the seat into position.
  6.  

Don't forget to route the seat belts into their correct locations.

  1. Install the retaining bolts and tighten them to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm.)
  2.  
  3. Reinstall the cargo area carpeting if it was removed.
  4.  

1990-95 ACCORD

See Figure 3

  1. With your hands, press down on the seat cushion where it meets the seat back. Locate the retaining bolt(s.) Some models retain the seat with one bolt in the center; others use two, evenly spaced left and right.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retaining bolts.
  4.  
  5. Lift the back of the seat upwards while rotating it to the front of the car.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the hooks at the front edge (during the rolling motion) of the seat and remove the seat bottom.
  8.

  1. Remove the carpet from the rear of the seat backs.
  2.  
  3. Remove the seat back mounting bolts from the luggage compartment side.
  4.  
  5. Lift out the seat back.
  6.  
  7. If the rear side bolsters or pads are to be removed, remove the lower mounting bolt, then push upward to free the hooks.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the side bolsters if they were removed.
  2.  
  3. Install the seat bottom, engaging the front hooks first. Tighten the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm.)
  4.  
  5. Install the seat back.
  6.  
  7. Install the seat back retaining bolts; when they are just snug, check the fit of the seat and its position in the upper latch. Adjust as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm.)
  10.  
  11. Install the rear carpeting to the seat back.
  12.  

PRELUDE

See Figure 4

  1. Pull the seat back all the way down. Remove the luggage area carpet from the back of the seat.
  2.  
  3. Remove the clip pin on the left side of the seat back. Slide the seat back to the left (removing it from the right mount) and remove the back.

  1. Remove the bolt(s) securing the seat bottom
  2.  
  3. Move the rear of the seat upwards and towards the front; disengage the hooks from the floor holes.
  4.  
  5. Reassemble in reverse order. Tighten the seat mounting bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm.)
  6.  

Don't forget to route the seat belts through the pockets in the seat bottom.
