Throttle Body

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the air intake tube from the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system, at least to a level below the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the coolant hoses running to the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Label and disconnect the vacuum hoses from the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Unplug the wiring connector(s) from the throttle body.
  12.

  1. Label and disconnect the throttle control and/or accelerator cable. Do not kink the cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nuts securing the throttle body to the intake chamber or plenum. Loosen each nut 1-2 turns at a time to release the pressure evenly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the throttle body assembly. Remove and discard the gasket.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install a new gasket on the plenum; install the throttle body onto the studs. Note that the gasket is usually not symmetric; there is only one correct position for it.
  2.  
  3. Install the retaining nuts. Tighten them evenly and alternately to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle control and/or accelerator cables.
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum hoses and wiring.
  8.  
  9. Connect the coolant hoses.
  10.  
  11. Refill the cooling system.
  12.  
  13. Connect the air intake ducts.
  14.
