REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Accord

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If so equipped, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
  2.  
  3. Remove the floor console and the front console panel. On 1984-85 cars, if access to the back of the radio may be gained through other means, such as removing the "pocket" from the console, the console need not be removed.

  1. Remove the ashtray and ashtray holder.
  2.  
  3. On 1986-89 cars:
    1. Remove the coin box, air vents and ashtray lighting bracket.
    2.  
    3. Remove the dashboard switches on the left and right of the steering wheel.
    4.  
    5. Lower the steering wheel to its lowest position. Remove the dash visor. This is a large, one-piece assembly which includes the center dash trim. It's plastic; don't break it.

  5. Remove the two screws holding the radio at the rear of the unit.
  6.  
  7. Carefully push the unit out the front of the dash. When access is gained, disconnect the multi-pin connector and the antenna cable from the unit. Remove the unit.

  9. Reinstall in the reverse order. Take great care not to damage the dash trim and instrument visor. Make certain the connectors are firmly and squarely installed. If applicable, be sure to enable the SRS.

Prelude

See Figure 4

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If so equipped, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
  2.  
  3. Remove the console.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws securing the center instrument panel. Remove the panel with the switches and radio attached. Use care; the panel is easily damaged.
  6.  
  7. When access is gained, disconnect the multi-pin connector to the radio and any other applicable connectors.
  8.

  1. With the dash panel and radio unit clear of the dash, remove the two retaining screws holding the radio.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Reinstall the radio and secure the mounting bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the wiring, making sure connectors are firmly and squarely seated.
  4.  
  5. Fit the entire unit into the dash, taking care not to pinch or damage wiring.
  6.  
  7. Install the front console.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. If applicable, enable the SRS.
