Fig. The maximum drum diameter is usually stamped on the outside of the drum

Inspect the drum for cracks, uneven surface wear, scoring, grooves, excessive ridge wear and out of round conditions. If necessary and within wear limits, resurface the brake drum. Otherwise replace it.

Inspect the rear bearing condition with the drum removed. Rotate the rear hub bearings and check for smooth operation.

The maximum allowable inside diameter should be stamped into the brake drum. Measure the inside diameter of the drum to determine if it is within the service limit. If resurfaced, recheck the inside diameter. If the drum exceeds the specification, replace the drum. Compare the measured brake drum inside diameter to the following specifications:

Standard: 8.657-8.661 inches (219.9-220.0mm)

Service Limit: 8.700 inches (221.0mm)

Standard: 9.996-10.000 inches (253.9-254.0mm)

Service Limit: 10.04 inches (255.0mm)
