  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.

CAUTION
Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined earlier in this section.
  2.
  3. Detach the fuel rail electrical harness connectors. Move the harness out of the way.
  4.
  5. Remove the vacuum hose and fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  6.
  7. Place a rag under the fuel line connection to absorb any leaking fuel, then disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail.
  8.
  9. Unfasten the fuel rail retaining nuts then, use a gently rocking motion to free the fuel injectors and remove the fuel rail.
  10.

To install:

When installing the fuel rail, be sure to lubricate all rubber O-rings with fresh engine oil and to replace any sealing washer that was removed.

  1. Coat the fuel injector O-rings with a light coating of fresh engine oil and install the fuel rail and secure with the retaining fasteners.
  2.
  3. Connect the fuel line to the fuel rail.
  4.
  5. Install the vacuum hose and fuel return hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
  6.
  7. Attach the electrical harness connectors.
  8.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.
  11. Pressurize the fuel system by turning the ignition switch to the ON position.
  12.
  13. Check for leaks, if none are found, start the engine and recheck for any leaks. If any leakage is found, repair as necessary.
