Maintenance Service Indicator

Print

The Maintenance Required Indicator used on the Honda Accord and Prelude is one of two types. Early models use a small rectangular window in the lower portion of the instrument cluster that displays a colored flag. The flag color remains green until it is time for scheduled maintenance. When the 7,500 mile (12,000 km) maintenance interval approaches, the indicator will turn yellow. If 7,500 miles (12,000 km) is exceeded, the indicator will turn red.

Later models use a Maintenance Required Indicator warning light located in the lower portion of the tachometer. Once reset, the warning light works as follows:

During the first 6,000 miles (9,600 km), the light operates for two seconds when the ignition is switched ON .

Between 6,000-7,500 miles (9,600-12,000 km), the light operates for two seconds when the ignition is switched ON , and then flashes for 10 seconds.

If 7,500 miles (12,000 km) is exceeded without having the scheduled maintenance performed and the light reset, the light remains on constantly.
