  4.
  5. To prevent warping, unscrew the pressure plate mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern in several steps, and then remove the pressure plate.
  6.
  7. Remove the clutch disc, clutch alignment shaft, and remover handle.
  8.

To install:

  1. Temporarily install the clutch disc onto the splines of the transmission mainshaft. Make sure the clutch disc slides freely on the mainshaft.
  2.
  3. Install the ring gear holder.
  4.
  5. Apply a light coat of super high temp urea grease (P/N 08798-9002) to the crankshaft pilot bushing.
  6.
  7. Apply super high temp urea grease (P/N 08798-9002) to the splines of the clutch disc, and then install the clutch disc using the clutch alignment shaft and remover handle.
  8.
  9. Install the pressure plate and the mounting bolts finger-tight.
  10.
  11. Torque the mounting bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) in a crisscross pattern. Tighten the bolts in several steps to prevent warping the diaphragm spring.

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. Remove the manual transaxle.
  2.
  3. Check the height of the diaphragm spring fingers using the dial indicator. If the height is more than the service limit of 0.04 in. (1.0 mm), replace the pressure plate.

  4.
  5. Install the clutch alignment shaft, handle, and the ring gear holder.
  6.
  7. To prevent warping, unscrew the pressure plate mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern in several steps, then remove the pressure plate.

  8.
  9. Inspect the fingers of the diaphragm spring for wear at the release bearing contact area.
  10.
  11. Inspect the pressure plate surface for wear, cracks, and burning.
  12.
  13. Use a straight edge and feeler gauge to inspect the pressure plate for warpage. Measure across the pressure plate. If the warpage is more than 0.006 in. (0.15 mm) service limit, replace the pressure plate.
  14.
  15. Remove the clutch disc, the clutch alignment shaft, and handle.
  16.
  17. Inspect the lining of the clutch disc for signs of slipping or oil. If the clutch disc looks burnt or is soaked with oil, replace it. Find and repair the source of the oil leak if the clutch disc is soaked.
  18.
  19. Measure the clutch disc thickness. If the thickness is less than 0.20 in. (5.0 mm) service limit, replace the clutch disc.
  20.
  21. Measure the rivet depth from the clutch disc lining surface to the rivets on both sides. If the rivet depth is less than 0.08 in. (0.2 mm) service limit, replace the clutch disc.
    NOTE
At this point, the flywheel may also be removed and inspected. See -Flywheel- in the Engine Mechanical section.
