Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. Connect a scan tool with proper software to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  4.
  5. Make sure the scan tool communicates with the Engine Control Module (ECM)/Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and other vehicle systems. If it doesn't, perform additional DLC circuit troubleshooting.
  6.
  7. Select the PGM-FI system with the scan tool.
  8.
  9. Select the INSPECTION MENU with the scan tool.
  10.
  11. Select the ETCS TEST, then select the TP POSITION CHECK, and follow the screen prompts.
    NOTE
If the TP POSITION CHECK indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.

  12.
  13. Select the REPLACE ECM/PCM MENU, then select READ DATA and follow the screen prompts.
    NOTE
Doing this step copies (READS) the engine oil life data from the original ECM/PCM so you can later download (WRITE) it into the new ECM/PCM.

    NOTE
If READ DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.

  14.
  15. Select the A/T system with the scan tool.
  16.
  17. Select the REPLACE TCM/PCM MENU, then select READ DATA and follow the screen prompts.
    NOTE
Doing this step copies (READS) the ATF life data from the original PCM so you can later download (WRITE) it into the new PCM.

    NOTE
If READ DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    2.

  18.
  19. Jump the SCS line with the scan tool.
  20.
  21. Remove the passenger's dashboard under cover, the side kick panel, and the glove box.
  22.
  23. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the bolts then remove the ECM/PCM.
  24.

To install:

  1. Install the ECM/PCM in the reverse order of removal, then perform the following:
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  4.
  5. Manually input the VIN to the ECM/PCM with the scan tool.
    NOTE
DTC P0630 ''VIN Not Programmed or Mismatch'' may be stored because the VIN has not been programmed into the ECM/PCM; ignore it, and continue this procedure.

  6.
  7. If the READ DATA (engine oil life) failed in step , go to step 20. Otherwise, go to step 18.
  8.
  9. Select the PGM-FI system with the scan tool.
  10.
  11. Select the REPLACE ECM/PCM MENU, then select WRITE DATA and follow the screen prompts.
    NOTE
If the WRITE DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.

  12.
  13. If the READ DATA (ATF life) failed in step 9, go to step 23. Otherwise go to step 21.
  14.
  15. Select the A/T SYSTEM with the scan tool.
  16.
  17. Select the REPLACE TCM/PCM MENU, then select WRITE DATA and follow the screen prompts.
    NOTE
If the WRITE DATA indicates FAILED, continue with this procedure.

  18.
  19. Select IMMOBI system with the scan tool.
  20.
  21. Enter the immobilizer code with the ECM/PCM replacement procedure in the scan tool; it allows you to start the engine.
  22.
  23. If the TP POSITION CHECK failed in step 6 clean the throttle body, then go to step 26.
  24.
  25. If the READ DATA failed in step 7 or the WRITE DATA failed in step 19, replace the engine oil and engine oil filter, then go to step 27.
  26.
  27. If the READ DATA failed in step 9 or the WRITE DATA failed in step 22, replace the ATF, then go to step 28.
  28.
  29. Select PGM-FI system, and reset the ECM/PCM with the scan tool.
  30.
  31. Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software.
  32.
  33. Perform the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure as follows:
    NOTE
The idle learn procedure must be done so the ECM/PCM can learn the engine idle characteristics.

  34.
  35. Do the idle learn procedure whenever you do any of these actions:
    NOTE
Clearing the DTCs with the scan tool does not require you to do the idle learn procedure.

    Replace the ECM/PCM.

    Reset the ECM/PCM.

    Update the ECM/PCM.

Replace or clean the throttle body.

When the engine or transmission is disassembled.

  36.
  37. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, lights, etc.) are off.
  38.
  39. Reset the ECM/PCM with the scan tool.
  40.
  41. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and wait 2 seconds.
  42.
  43. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant temperature reaches 194°F (90°C).
  44.
  45. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed.
    NOTE
If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes

  46.
  47. Perform the CKP pattern learn procedure as follows:
    1. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
    2.
    3. Test-drive the vehicle on a level road: Decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from an engine speed of 2,500 rpm down to 1,000 rpm with the A/T in 2 position, or M/T in 1st gear. Repeat this step several times.
    4.
    5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    6.
    7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and wait 30 seconds.
