Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the timing belt and timing belt drive pulley. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Timing Belt, Removal and Installation.-
  6.  
  7. Remove the crankshaft pulley and crankshaft oil seal.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean and dry the crankshaft oil seal housing.
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coat of multipurpose grease to the crankshaft and to the lip of the seal.
  4.  
  5. Using the seal driver, drive in the crankshaft oil seal until the driver bottoms against the oil pump. When the seal is in place, clean any excess grease off the crankshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
  6.  
  7. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  8.  

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Hold the pulley with the holder handle and crankshaft pulley holder.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt with a socket, 19 mm and a breaker bar, and then remove the crankshaft pulley.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pulley end crankshaft oil seal.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Clean and dry the crankshaft oil seal housing.
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coat of new engine oil around the crankshaft oil seal.
  4.  
  5. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the crankshaft and to the lip of the crankshaft oil seal.
  6.  
  7. Using the oil seal driver, drive in the crankshaft oil seal until the driver bottoms against the oil pump. When the seal is in place, clean any excess grease off the crankshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
  8.  
  9. Clean the crankshaft pulley, crankshaft, bolt, and washer.
  10.  
  11. Install the crankshaft pulley onto the crankshaft by aligning the flat sides of the pulley with the flat sides of the inner oil pump gear.
  12.  
  13. Hold the crankshaft pulley with the holder handle and the holder attachment. Tighten the bolt to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm) with a torque wrench and 19 mm socket. Do not use an impact wrench. If the pulley bolt or crankshaft are new, tighten the bolt to 130 ft. lbs. (177 Nm) then remove the bolt and tighten it to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm). Tighten the bolt an additional 90°.

  15. Install the accessory drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Install the right front wheel.
