Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Drive an oil pan seal cutter tool between the oil pan and engine block. Cut the oil pan seal by striking the side of the tool along the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if more than four minutes have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply after removing the previous coating material.

  4.  
  5. Position the oil pan in place. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in two or three steps to specification and in the proper sequence.

  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  8.  
  9. After assembly, wait at least thirty minutes before filling the engine with clean engine oil.
  10.  
  11. Do not run the engine for at least three hours after installing the oil pan.
  12.  

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. On M/T models, remove the heat shield.
  2.  
  3. Remove the dipstick tube.
  4.  
  5. Remove the clutch cover/torque converter cover, and remove the bolts securing the transmission.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts/nuts securing the oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Using a flat blade screwdriver, separate the oil pan from the engine block.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Remove old liquid gasket from the oil pan mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
  2.  
  3. Clean and dry the oil pan mating surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Install the new oil pan gasket on the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Apply liquid gasket to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
    1. Apply a 1.5 mm wide bead of the liquid gasket along the broken line (A).
    2.  
    3. Apply a 5.0 mm wide bead of the liquid gasket to the shaded area (B).
      NOTE
      If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.

  9. Install the oil pan with the dowel pin and a new O-ring.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the bolts in three steps:
    NOTE
    Wait at least 30 minutes to allow liquid gasket to cure before filling the engine with oil. Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the oil pan.



    First step: 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm)
     
    Second step: 8.7 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    Third step: 8.7 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)

  13. Install the clutch cover/torque converter cover, and tighten the bolts securing the transmission and tighten to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the dipstick tube (A) with a new O-ring (B).
  16.  
  17. On M/T models, install the heat shield.
  18.  

2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the battery positive cable. Remove the battery. Remove the air cleaner housing. Remove the battery base.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the clutch slave cylinder and clutch line bracket mounting bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ground cable. Remove the transaxle upper mount/bracket assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front mount stop. Remove the front mount bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear mount stop. Remove the rear mount bolt.
  14.  
  15. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Drain the engine oil. Remove the front tires.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the stabilizer links. Remove the left side damper fork. Disconnect the left side suspension lower arm ball joint.
  18.  
  19. Remove the left side driveshaft. Remove the nuts securing the transaxle lower front mount and transaxle lower rear mount.
  20.  
  21. Use a transaxle jack and support the transaxle assembly. Remove the stiffener.
  22.  
  23. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Drive an oil pan seal cutter tool between the oil pan and engine block. Cut the oil pan seal by striking the side of the tool along the oil pan.
  24.  
  25. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if more than four minutes have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply after removing the previous coating material.

  5. Position the oil pan in place. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in two or three steps to specification and in the proper sequence.

  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.

3.0L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the exhaust pipe. Remove the torque converter cover. Remove the two lower transaxle retaining bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Using a flat bladed tool, carefully separate the oil pan from the engine block. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if more than four minutes have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply after removing the previous coating material.

  5. Position the oil pan in place. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in two or three steps to specification and in the proper sequence.

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2008

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the exhaust pipe.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear exhaust manifold bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor cover and the bolt, and then disconnect the CKP sensor connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the clutch/torque converter cover and the four bolts securing the transmission.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts securing the oil pan.
  16.  
  17. Using a flat blade screwdriver, separate the oil pan from the engine block in the places shown.
  18.  
  19. Remove the oil pan.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the oil pan mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.
  2.  
  3. Clean and dry the oil pan mating surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pan on the engine block.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the mounting bolts in sequence to 8.7 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
    NOTE
    Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.


    NOTE
    Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the oil pan.

  8.  
  9. Tighten the four bolts securing the transmission to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm), and then install the clutch/torque converter cover.
  10.  
  11. Connect the CKP sensor connector, and then install the CKP sensor cover and the bolt.
  12.  
  13. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  14.  
  15. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  16.  

Hybrid

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Drain the engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the steering joint bolt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front undercover and the splash shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector, and then remove the A/C compressor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the intake manifold bracket and the harness clamp.
  14.  
  15. Remove the under-floor Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the front stabilizer links.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the suspension lower arm ball joints.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the steering gearbox harness connectors.
  22.  
  23. Attach the universal lifting eyelet, and the engine support hanger.
  24.  
  25. Remove the lower torque rod mounting bolts.
  26.  
  27. Make the appropriate reference line at the both side front subframe that line up with the edge on the body.
  28.  
  29. Loosen the mid stiffener mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Using the front subframe adapter, remove the front subframe.
  32.  
  33. Remove the harness clamps, the mounting bolt, and the dipstick tube.
  34.  
  35. Remove the lower torque rod bracket mounting bolts.
  36.  
  37. Remove the two bolts securing the transmission.
  38.  
  39. Remove the bolts securing the oil pan.
  40.  
  41. Insert a flat blade screwdriver where shown, and separate the oil pan from the engine block.
  42.  
  43. Remove the oil pan.
  44.  

To install:

  1. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the oil pan mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.
  2.  
  3. Clean and dry the oil pan mating surfaces and the O-ring groove.
  4.  
  5. Install the dowel pins, and install the new O-ring and the oil pan gasket on the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08718-0001, or 08718-0009, evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan and to the inside edge of the threaded bolt holes. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
  8.  
  9. Install the oil pan.
  10.  
  11. Tighten all the bolts in three steps to 8.7 ft. lbs. (12 Nm), except for bolt No. 1 which is tighten to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm). Wipe off the excess liquid gasket on the each side of the crankshaft pulley and the flywheel.

  13. Tighten the two bolts securing the transmission to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the lower torque rod bracket mounting bolts and tighten to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  16.  
  17. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  18.  
  19. Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine oil.
  20.  
  21. Check and adjust the wheel alignment as necessary.
  22.  

Non-hybrid
1.8L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drive belt. Remove the air conditioning condenser fan shroud.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the compressor electrical connectors. Remove the compressor retaining bolts, and position it to the side without discharging the system.
  6.  
  7. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the splash shield. Drain the engine oil.
  8.  
  9. Remove the exhaust pipe. Properly support the oil pan. Remove the lower torque rod. Remove the oil pan support tool.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower torque rod bracket. Remove the air conditioning compressor bracket.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with automatic transaxle, remove the shift cable cover. Remove the torque converter cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the clutch cover if equipped with manual transaxle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Using a flat bladed tool, carefully separate the oil pan from the engine block. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if more than five minutes have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply after removing the previous coating material.

  4.  
  5. Install the dowel pins, using new O-rings.
  6.  
  7. Position the oil pan in place. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in two or three steps to specification and in the proper sequence.

2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Drain the engine oil. Remove the front tires.
  4.  
  5. Remove the splash shield. Separate the stabilizer links. Separate the knuckles from the lower arms.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering gearbox bracket. Remove the steering gearbox mounting bolt, stiffener mounting bolt and stiffener.
  8.  
  9. Remove the gearbox mounting bolt, stiffener mounting bolt and stiffener. Remove the harness clamp from the subframe
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower torque rod. Remove the front mount mounting bolt.
  12.  
  13. Use a marker and make alignment marks on the reference lines that align with the centers of the rear subframe mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the mid-stiffener mounting bolts, on both sides. Support the subframe using the proper support tool.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front subframe. Remove the lower torque rod bracket.
  18.  
  19. Remove the clutch cover and the transaxle mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts. Using a flat bladed tool, carefully separate the oil pan from the engine block. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pan.
    NOTE
