Specific to:

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Remove the pump housing.
  2.  
  3. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor and outer rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump.
  4.  
  5. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds 0.005 in. (0.12 mm), replace the oil pump.
  6.  
  7. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.009 in. (0.23 mm), replace the oil pump.
  8.  
  9. Inspect both rotors and the pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace parts if necessary.
  10.

  1. Remove the pump cover.
  2.  
  3. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor and outer rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit of 0.08 in. (0.2 mm), replace the oil pump.
  4.  
  5. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds the service limit of 0.006 in. (0.15 mm), replace the oil pump.
  6.  
  7. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit of 0.008 in. (0.2 mm), replace the oil pump.
  8.  
  9. Inspect both rotors and the pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace parts if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Install the oil pump cover.
  12.  

2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Remove the pump housing.
  2.  
  3. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor and outer rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump.
  4.  
  5. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds 0.005 in. (0.12 mm), replace the oil pump.
  6.  
  7. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.009 in. (0.23 mm), replace the oil pump.

3.0L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007

  1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, and then separate the housing and cover.
  2.  
  3. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor and outer rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor clearance exceeds the 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump assembly.
  4.  
  5. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotors and pump housing. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds 0.005 in. (0.12 mm), replace the oil pump assembly.
  6.  
  7. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump assembly.
  8.  
  9. Inspect both rotors and pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace the parts, if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Apply liquid thread lock to the pump housing screws, and then install the oil pump cover.
  12.  
  13. Check that the oil pump turns freely.
  14.  

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2008

  1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, and then separate the housing and cover.
  2.  
  3. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor and outer rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor clearance exceeds the 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump assembly.
  4.  
  5. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotors and pump housing. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds 0.005 in. (0.12 mm), replace the oil pump assembly.
  6.  
  7. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor and pump housing. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump assembly.
  8.  
  9. Inspect both rotors and pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace the parts, if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Apply liquid thread lock to the pump housing screws, and then install the oil pump cover.
  12.  
  13. Check that the oil pump turns freely.
  14.  

Hybrid

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, and then separate the housing and the cover.
  2.  
  3. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor and the outer rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump.
  4.  
  5. Check the pump housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotor and the pump housing. If the pump housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds the 0.006 in. (0.15 mm), replace the oil pump.
  6.  
  7. Check the pump housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor and the pump housing. If the pump housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the 0.008 in. (0.20 mm), replace the oil pump.
  8.  
  9. Inspect both rotors and the pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace parts, if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Apply liquid thread lock to the pump housing screws, and then install the oil pump cover.
  12.  
  13. Check that the oil pump turns freely.
  14.  

Non-hybrid
1.8L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, and then separate the housing and cover.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the timing chain. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Timing Chain, Removal and Installation.-
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump chain tensioner. Remove the baffle plate.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pump retaining bolts. Remove the oil pump, oil pump chain and crankshaft sprocket.

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Squeeze the new oil pump chain tensioner and then install the set clip.
  4.  
  5. Install the crankshaft sprocket, oil pump chain and oil pump. Install the baffle plate.
  6.  
  7. Set the crankshaft sprocket so that the number one piston is at TDC. Align the key on the sprocket and crankshaft with the pointer on the engine block.
  8.  
  9. Move the cam chain so that the colored piece aligns with the punched mark on the crankshaft.
  10.  
  11. Install the oil pump chain guide and the oil pump chain tensioner with the seat clip.
  12.  
  13. Remove the set clip from the oil pump chain tensioner.
  14.  
  15. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    After assembly, wait at least thirty minutes before filling the engine with clean engine oil.


    NOTE
    Do not run the engine for at least three hours after installing the oil pan.

  16.  
  17. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. Remove the cam chain.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil screen, then remove the oil pump.

To install:

  1. Install in reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Install the dowel pins and new O-ring on the oil pump, then align the inner rotor with crankshaft, and install the oil pump.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil screen with new gasket.
  6.  
  7. Install the cam chain.
  8.  

2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Position the number one piston at TDC. Remove the oil pan.
  4.  
  5. Remove and discard the oil pump chain tensioner.
  6.  
  7. To hold the rear balancer shaft, insert a 6mm pin driver into the maintenance hole in the lower balancer shaft holder and through the rear balancer shaft.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the oil pump sprocket mounting bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pump sprocket. Remove the oil pump.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply clean engine oil to the threads of the oil pump sprocket mounting bolt.
  4.  
  5. Loosely install the oil pump, and then install the oil pump sprocket. Remove the pin driver.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the pump retaining bolts to specification.
  8.  
  9. Squeeze the new oil pump chain tensioner and then install the set clip.
  10.  
  11. Install the oil pump chain tensioner. Remove the set clip from the pump chain tensioner.
  12.  
  13. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    After assembly, wait at least thirty minutes before filling the engine with clean engine oil.


    NOTE
    Do not run the engine for at least three hours after installing the oil pan.

  15. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  16.  

3.0L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine oil.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bulkhead cover. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the windshield wiper arms.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cowl cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector bracket from the front of the cylinder head. Remove the harness clamp bracket from the rear of the cylinder head. Attach engine support tool, VSB02C0000019. Lift and support the engine.
  16.  
  17. Remove the timing belt. Remove the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. Remove the rocker arm oil control solenoid and oil filter assembly.
  18.  
  19. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the oil pan.
  20.  
  21. Remove the oil pump screen. Remove the oil pump retaining bolts. Remove the oil pump from the engine.

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the block mating surface of the oil pump.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if more than four minutes have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply after removing the previous coating material.

  4.  
  5. Grease the lip of the oil seal and apply clean oil to the new O-rings.
  6.  
  7. Install the dowel pins then align the inner rotor with the crankshaft. Install the oil pump.
  8.  
  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    After assembly, wait at least thirty minutes before filling the engine with clean engine oil.


    NOTE
    Do not run the engine for at least three hours after installing the oil pan.

  10.  
  11. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  12.  

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2008

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the timing belt. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Timing Belt, Removal and Installation.-
  6.  
  7. Remove the timing belt drive pulley from the crankshaft.
  8.  
  9. Attach a chain hoist to the engine hook on the power steering pump bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil filter base/oil filter assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Oil Pan, Removal and Installation.-
  14.  
  15. Remove the oil screen.
  16.  
  17. Remove the mounting bolts and the oil pump assembly.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Remove the old oil seal from the oil pump.
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coat of new engine oil around the crankshaft oil seal.
  4.  
  5. Gently tap in the new oil seal until the oil seal driver bottoms on the pump.
  6.  
  7. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the oil pump mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.
  8.  
  9. Clean and dry the oil pump mating surfaces.
  10.  
  11. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pump and to the inside edge of the threaded bolt holes. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
  12.  
  13. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of the crankshaft oil seal, and apply new engine oil to the new O-ring.
  14.  
  15. Install the dowel pins, align the inner rotor with the crankshaft, and install the oil pump.
  16.  
  17. Clean any excess grease off the crankshaft, and check the seal for distortion.
  18.  
  19. Install the oil screen with a new O-ring.

  21. Install the oil pan.
  22.  
  23. Install the oil filter base/oil filter assembly.
  24.  
  25. Install the timing belt.
    NOTE
    After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

  27. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  

Hybrid

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the timing chain. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Timing Chain, Removal and Installation.-
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil screen.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pump.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the dowel pins and a new O-ring on the oil pump, and then align the inner rotor with the crankshaft, and install the oil pump. Tighten the mounting bolts to 86 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the oil screen with a new gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install the timing chain.
  6.  
  7. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

Non-hybrid
1.8L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine oil.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front tires.
  10.  
  11. Remove the splash shield.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the drive belt auto tensioner.
  16.  
  17. Remove the cylinder head cover.
  18.  
  19. Remove the PCV valve hose.
  20.  
  21. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  22.  
  23. Properly support the engine, using a suitable jack and block of wood under the oil pan.
  24.  
  25. Remove the bolt securing the air conditioning line.
  26.  
  27. Remove the upper torque rod.
  28.  
  29. Remove the ground cable.
  30.  
  31. Remove the side engine mount bracket.
  32.  
  33. Remove the oil pump retaining bolts and remove the oil pump from the engine.

To install:

  1. Remove any old gasket from the mating surfaces. Be sure these surfaces are clean and dry.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket, part number 08717-004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003 or 08718-0009 evenly to the engine block mating surface of the oil pump.
    NOTE
    Do not install the parts if more than four minutes have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply after removing the previous coating material.

  5. Apply liquid gasket to the engine block upper surface contact areas on the oil pump, lower block upper surface contact areas of the oil pump.

  7. Install a new O-ring on the oil pump. Set the edge of the oil pump on the edge of the oil pan. Install the oil pump on the engine block.
  8.  
  9. Loosely install the dowel bolts, and then tighten the 8mm bolts. Tighten the 6mm bolts and the dowel bolts.
  10.  
  11. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
    NOTE
    After assembly, wait at least thirty minutes before filling the engine with clean engine oil.


    NOTE
    Do not run the engine for at least three hours after installing the oil pan.

  12.  
  13. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  14.  

2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Note the radio security code and the radio presets.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
