Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Remove some brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake hose mounting bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the flange bolt, while holding the caliper pin, and pivot the caliper up out of the way.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake pads and pad shims.
  12.  
  13. Remove the pad retainers.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Apply a thin coat of M-77 assembly paste part number o8798-9010 to the brake pad sides of the pad shims and the back of the brake pads, wipe excess paste off the shim.
  2.  
  3. Install the pad retainers.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake pads and shims.
    NOTE
    The brake pads should be installed with the wear indicator on top (4-cylinder), or on the inside (6-cylinder)

  6.  
  7. Push in the piston, so the caliper will fit over the brake pads.
    WARNING
    Check the brake fluid level. The brake fluid may overflow if the reservoir is too full.

  8.  
  9. Pivot the caliper down into position. Install the flange bolt and tighten it to:

    4 cylinder models: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm)
     
    6-cylinder models: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     

  10.  
  11. Install the brake hose mounting bolt and tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the front wheel and lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Refill the master cylinder with brake fluid to the correct level.

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Remove some brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the flange bolt and pivot the caliper up out of the way.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pad shims and brake pads.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pad retainers.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the pad retainers.
  2.  
  3. Using a C-clamp or piston compression tool, press in the piston so the caliper will fit over the brake pads.
  4.  
  5. Apply a thin coat of M-77 assembly paste part number o8798-9010 to the brake pad sides of the pad shims and the back of the brake pads, wipe excess paste off the shim.
  6.  
  7. Install the brake pads and shims.
    NOTE
    The brake pads should be installed with the wear indicator on the upper inside.

  9. Pivot the caliper down tighten the flange bolt to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the front wheel and lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Refill the master cylinder with brake fluid to the correct level.
  14.  

Specific to:

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Remove and discard brake fluid from the master cylinder, as necessary.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the front tires.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper flange bolt.
  6.  
  7. Pivot the caliper assembly up and out of the way. Remove the brake pads and shims.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pad retainers and check the caliper pins for free movement.

To install:

  1. Apply a thin coat of M-77 assembly paste part number o8798-9010 to the brake pad sides of the pad shims and the back of the brake pads, wipe excess paste off the shim.
  2.  
  3. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  4.  
  5. Check and refill the master cylinder, as necessary.
  6.

Honda Fit 2007-2008

Manufacturer does not provide a separate procedure for disc brake pad removal and installation.
