Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Compress the damper spring with a commercially available strut spring compressor according to the manufacturer-s instructions.
  2.
  3. Remove the self locking nut while holding the damper shaft with a hex wrench. Do not compress the spring more than necessary to remove the nut.
  4.
  5. Release the pressure from the strut spring compressor. Disassemble the damper assembly. Reassemble all parts, except the spring.
  6.
  7. Compress the damper assembly by hand and check for smooth operation thru full stroke, both compression and extension.
  8.
  9. The damper should extend smoothly and constantly when compression is released. If not, gas is leaking and the damper should be replaced.
  10.
  11. Install all parts except the self locking nut onto the damper unit.
  12.
  13. Align the bottom of the spring and the stepped part of the lower spring seat. The hole in the upper spring seat and the arrow on the damper mounting base must point toward the knuckle mounting area.
  14.
  15. Install the damper assembly on a commercially available strut spring compressor.
  16.
  17. Compress the damper spring with the strut spring compressor. Install a new self locking nut on the damper shaft.
  18.
  19. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wrench and tighten the self locking nut.
  20.

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  10.
  11. Install the bump stop and the dust cover to the upper spring seat.
    NOTE
Push the bump stop and the dust cover into the upper spring seat securely.

  12.
  13. Install the spring mounting seat on the damper spring, then align the upper end of the damper spring with the seat stop.
  14.
  15. Compress the damper spring.
  16.
  17. Install all the parts except the 12 mm nut onto the damper unit, by referring to the Exploded View illustration above.
  18.
  19. Align the bottom of the damper spring with the stepped part of the lower spring seat.
  20.
  21. Compress the damper spring to the position where the damper shaft comes in contact with the damper mounting bearing. Do not excessively compress the damper spring.
  22.
  23. Install the 12 mm nut on the damper shaft. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wrench, and tighten the 12 mm nut to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  24.

Removal & Installation

  8.

To install:

  1. Position the strut assembly in the body with the aligning tab facing inside, and then loosely install the new flange nuts.
  2.
  3. Install the damper fork over the driveshaft and onto the lower arm. Install the front damper in the damper fork so the aligning tab is aligned with the slot in the damper fork.
  4.
  5. Loosely install the damper pinch bolt into the damper fork.
  6.
  7. Install the new flange bolt to the damper fork and lower arm, and lightly tighten the new damper fork mounting nut.
