Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008


CAUTION
The fuel injection system remains under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF . The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to follow this procedure may result in fire, explosion, or personal injury.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Clean the fuel line fittings before disconnecting them.



    Rear seat cushions
     
    Remove the fuel filler cap
     
    Rear floor upper crossmember
     
    Fuel pump access panel
     
    Fuel pump electrical harness
     

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the quick connect fitting from the pump assembly.
  10.  
  11. Using Special Tool 07AAA-S0XA100, or equivalent, loosen the fuel tank unit locknut. Remove the locknut and the fuel tank unit. Allow the fuel in the pump drain into the tank before removing the pump from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Be sure to use a new base gasket and new O-rings.
  2.  
  3. When installing the fuel tank unit, align the marks on the fuel tank and the fuel tank unit.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the electrical connections are secure and the connector firmly locked in place.
  6.  
  7. Make sure the fuel line connections are secure and the connector firmly locked in place.
  8.  
  9. Using Special Tool 07AAA-S0XA100, or equivalent, tighten the fuel tank unit locknut to 88 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  10.  
  11. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.

Honda S2000 2007-2008


CAUTION

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Clean the fuel line fittings before disconnecting them.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Remove the fuel tank filler cap
     
    Rear package tray
     
    Fuel pump access panel
     
    Fuel pump electrical harness
     

  6.  
  7. Disconnect the quick connect fitting from the pump assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel tank retaining bolts. Remove the fuel tank unit from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Be sure to use a new base gasket.
  2.  
  3. When installing the fuel tank unit, align the marks on the fuel tank and the fuel tank unit.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the electrical connections are secure and the connector firmly locked in place.
  6.  
  7. Make sure the fuel line connections are secure and the connector firmly locked in place.
  8.  
  9. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  10.  

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. Relieve the fuel pressure.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center console.
  4.  
  5. Remove the access panel from the floor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the fuel tank unit 4-pin connector.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings from the fuel tank unit.

  11. Using the special tool, loosen the locknut.
  12.  
  13. Remove the locknut and the fuel tank unit (fuel pump assembly).
  14.  
  15. Disassembly, if needed, to replace fuel filter or other components.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Temporarily attach a new base gasket to the fuel tank unit, then insert the fuel tank unit partially into the fuel tank.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage the new base gasket. Be careful not to bend the fuel gauge sending unit. Do not coat the base gasket with oil.

  3. Transfer the base gasket from the fuel tank unit to the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Align the marks on the fuel tank and the fuel tank unit, then insert the fuel tank unit until it sits on the base gasket.
    WARNING
    To prevent a fuel leak, check the base gasket, visually or by hand, to make sure it is not pinched.

  6.  
  7. Using the tool, tighten the new locknut to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm).
  8.  
  9. After tightening, make sure the marks are still aligned.
  10.  
  11. After installation, check the base gasket visually or by hand to be sure it is not pinched.
  12.  
  13. Connect the fuel tank unit 4-pin connector.
  14.  
  15. Reconnect the quick-connect fitting to the fuel tank unit.
  16.  
  17. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery, and turn the ignition switch ON (II) (but do not operate the starter motor). The fuel pump will run for about 2 seconds, and fuel pressure will rise. Repeat two or three times, and check that there is no leakage in the fuel supply system.
  18.  
  19. Install the access panel on the floor.
  20.  
  21. Install the center console.
  22.  

2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the spare tire lid.
  6.  
  7. Remove the access panel from the floor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the fuel pump 5P connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel pump assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the fuel pump assembly.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal. Tighten the mounting nuts to 36 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  2.  

3.0L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the spare tire lid.
  6.  
  7. Remove the access panel from the floor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the fuel pump 5P connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel pump assembly.
  12.  
  13. Using suitable fuel sender wrench, remove the pump assembly.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

    Use a new base gasket and locknut
     
    Line up the matchmarks on the fuel tank and top of fuel pump assembly
     
    Tighten the locknut to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm)

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2008

  1. Properly relieve the fuel pressure.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  6.  
  7. Remove the access panel from the floor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the fuel pump 4P connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel pump assembly.
  12.  
  13. Using suitable fuel sender wrench, remove the pump assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the locknut and fuel pump assembly.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Temporarily attach a new base gasket to the fuel pump assembly, and then insert the assembly partially into the fuel tank.
  2.  
  3. Transfer the base gasket from the fuel pump assembly to the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Align the marks on the fuel tank and fuel tank unit, and then insert the fuel tank unit into the fuel tank until the fuel tank unit rests on top of the base gasket.
    WARNING
    Ensure the base gasket is sitting flush to avoid any fuel leaks.

  7. Using a suitable fuel sender wrench, tighten a new locknut to 51 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  8.  
  9. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
