Relieving Fuel System Pressure

Honda Accord 2007-2008


CAUTION
The fuel injection system remains under pressure after the engine has been turned OFF . Properly relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire or personal injury.


CAUTION
Do not allow fuel spray or fuel vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher nearby. Never store fuel in an open container due to risk of fire or explosion.


NOTE
The radio may contain a coded theft protection circuit. Always obtain the code number before disconnecting the battery.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left side kick panel. Remove the PGM-FI main relay.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and let it idle until it stalls.
    NOTE
    If any codes are stored, ignore them.

  9. Turn the ignition OFF.
  10.  
  11. On Hatchback, remove the engine cover.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fuel filler cap to relieve the fuel pressure in the tank.
  16.  
  17. On vehicles equipped with a quick connect cover, remove it. Clean any dirt from the quick-connect fitting. Place a rag or shop towel over quick-connect fitting.
  18.  
  19. Detach the quick-connect fitting by holding the connector with one hand, then squeeze the retainer tabs with the other hand to release them from the locking pawls. Pull the connector off.
  20.  
  21. If the connector does not move, keep the retainer tabs pressed down and alternately pull and push the connector until it comes off easily.
  22.  
  23. Do not move the retainer from the line; once removed, the retainer must be replaced with a new one.

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system.
  2.  
  3. Remove PGM-Fl main relay 2 (FUEL PUMP) from the under-dash fuse/relay box.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls.
    NOTE
    If any DTCs are stored, clear and ignore them.

  7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel fill cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  12.  
  13. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover on the fuel line connection near the bulkhead.
  14.  
  15. Check the fuel quick-connect fitting for dirt, and clean it if needed.
  16.  
  17. Place a rag or shop towel over the quick-connect fitting.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (A): Hold the connector (B) with one hand, and squeeze the retainer tabs (C) with the other hand to release them from the locking tabs (D). Pull the connector off.
    NOTE
    Be careful not to damage the line (E) or other parts.


    WARNING
    Do not use tools.

  21. If the connector does not move, keep the retainer tabs pressed down, and alternately pull and push the connector until it comes off easily.

  23. Do not remove the retainer from the line; once removed, the retainer must be replaced with a new one.

  25. After disconnecting the quick-connect fitting, check it for dirt or damage.

  27. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery, then do this:
    1. Enter the anti-theft code for the audio system.

    3. Set the clock.

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Remove PGM-Fl main relay 2 from the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls.
    NOTE
    If any DTCs are stored, clear and ignore them.

  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  8.  
  9. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air intake assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cover and quick-connect fitting cover.
  14.  
  15. Check the fuel quick-connect fitting for dirt, and clean it if needed.
  16.  
  17. Place a rag or shop towel over the quick-connect fitting.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting: Hold the connector with one hand, and squeeze the retainer tabs with the other hand to release them from the locking tabs. Pull the connector off.

  3. Remove the PGM-FI main relay. Reinstall the under dash fuse/relay box.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and let it idle until it stalls.
    NOTE

  7. Turn the ignition OFF.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fuel filler cap to relieve the fuel pressure in the tank.
