NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Discharge the air conditioning system. Disconnect the suction and the receiver lines from the evaporator core.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp. Disconnect the heater control cable from the valve. Turn the valve to the fully opened position. Disconnect the heater hoses from heater core assembly. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.
  8.  
  9. Remove the center console as follows:

    If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob
     
    Detach the center console retaining clips and pull the assembly upward
     
    If equipped with heated seats, detach the heat switch connectors
     
    Pry up on the right side of the console pocket, detach the clips and remove the pocket

    Remove the screws, detach the clips and disconnect the front power accessory connector
     
    Open the console lid and remove the console mat
     
    If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket electrical connector
     
    Remove the console retaining screws and remove the console from the vehicle

  11. Remove the driver-s side lower dashboard cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the passenger-s side lower dashboard cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the center pocket assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the glovebox.
  18.  
  19. Remove the driver-s side under cover panel.
  20.  
  21. Remove the drivers and passengers kick panels.
  22.  
  23. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
  24.  
  25. Remove the steering column as follows.

    Remove the driver-s air bag assembly
     
    Remove the steering wheel
     
    Remove the steering column covers
     
    Remove the steering joint cover
     
    Release the tilt/telescopic lever and adjust the column in the full up position
     
    Tighten the tilt/telescopic lever
     
    Hold the slider shaft on the column using a piece of wire

    Release the tilt/telescopic lever and adjust the column to the full up position
     
    Tighten the tilt/telescopic lever
     
    Disconnect the wire harness from the combination switch and remove the switch
     
    Disconnect the connectors from the ignition switch and release the wire harness clips from the column
     
    Remove the steering joint bolt and disconnect the steering joint from the pinion shaft
     
    Remove the steering column retaining nuts and remove the column from the vehicle

  27. Remove the driver-s side center lower cover. Remove the passenger-s side center lower cover and rear duct vent. Remove the SRS control unit.
  28.  
  29. On the driver-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  30.  
  31. In the middle section of the dashboard disconnect the parking brake switch connector, radio antenna connector and lead. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector.
  32.  
  33. On the passenger-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  34.  
  35. Remove the brake pedal support member.
  36.  
  37. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.

  39. Carefully remove the dashboard assembly from the vehicle.
  40.  
  41. Disconnect the connectors from the air mix control motor, evaporator temperature sensor, power transistor and recirculation control motor.
  42.  
  43. Remove the wiring harness clips, connector clip and wire harness. Remove the heater ducts.

  45. Remove the mounting nuts and remove the blower-heater unit from the vehicle.

  47. Remove the heater core cover. Remove the heater core.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  4.  
  5. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Enter the antitheft codes for the radio and the navigation system. Set the clock.
  8.  

Specific to:

Honda Accord 2008


NOTE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  5. Drain the engine coolant.

  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp. Disconnect the heater control cable from the valve. Turn the valve to the fully opened position. Disconnect the heater hoses from heater core assembly. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.
  8.  
  9. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover as follows:
    1. Adjust the steering column upward.
    2.  
    3. Pull out the bottom of the cover to detach the clips.
    4.  
    5. Pull out along the edge of the cover to detach the clips.
    6.  
    7. Release the bottom hooks.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the VSA OFF switch connector.
    10.  
    11. If necessary, remove the screws, and detach the hooks, and then remove the pocket trim from the driver's dashboard lower cover.
    12.

  11. Remove the center console as follows:
    1. Remove the center console panel.
    2.  
    3. Remove the center console rear trim.
    4.  
    5. If equipped with heated seats, detach the harness clips fastening the front seat heater switch harnesses from the center console.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the console accessory power socket connector and the auxiliary jack assembly connector, and detach the harness clip.
    8.  
    9. Remove the screws and the bolts securing the center console.
    10.  
    11. Detach the clips by pulling the front bottom edges of the center console out from both sides, and pull up the console to release the hooks, and then remove the console.
    12.

  13. Remove the dashboard center lower cover, both sides, as follows:
    1. Release both front portions of the center console from the dashboard.
    2.  
    3. Remove the driver's dashboard center lower cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the passenger's dashboard center lower cover.
    6.

  15. Remove the glove box as follows:
    1. Open the glove box.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the glove box damper from the pivot on the glove box.
    4.  
    5. Close the glove box.
    6.  
    7. Remove the bolts.
    8.  
    9. While holding the glove box, release the glove box stop on each side from the dashboard by pushing them in, and then remove the glove box.
    10.  
    11. Open the front door, and remove the passenger's dashboard side lid.
    12.

  17. Remove the kick panels as follows:
    1. Remove the front side cap from the door sill trim.
    2.  
    3. Driver-s side: Remove the trunk lid/fuel fill door opener lock cylinder, and loosen the opener mounting bolt.
    4.  
    5. Driver-s side: Remove the screw securing the door sill trim and trunk lid opener/fuel fill door opener.
    6.  
    7. Detach the hooks and the tabs from the kick panel and the rear side trim panel, and pull the door sill trim up by hand to detach the clips, and then remove it.
    8.  
    9. Remove the driver-s and passenger-s kick panels.
    10.

  19. Remove the A-pillar trim as follows:
    1. Pull the door opening seal away from the A-pillar as needed.
    2.  
    3. Hit the upper clip in the A-pillar trim with a rubber mallet. The clip is located under the point where the triangle mark on the edge of the trim indicates. Hitting the clip breaks the projections on the pin and pushes it into the grommet on the body.
    4.  
    5. Pull the top of the A-pillar trim back by hand to remove the upper clip from the body.
    6.  
    7. Pull the A-pillar trim by hand to detach the clips. Pull the trim up from the dashboard, and then remove it.
    8.

  21. Remove the steering column as follows:
    1. Adjust the steering column to the full tilt down position, and to the full telescopic out position.
    2.  
    3. Remove the driver's airbag, and the steering wheel.
    4.  
    5. Remove the steering column covers.
    6.  
    7. Remove the steering joint cover.
    8.  
    9. Loosen the upper steering joint bolt, and remove the lower steering joint bolt. Disconnect the steering joint by moving the steering joint toward the column. Do not disconnect the steering joint from the column shaft.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the wire harness connectors from the combination switch assembly/cable reel.
    12.  
    13. Remove the combination switch assembly/cable reel from the steering column shaft by removing the three screws.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the connectors from the ignition switch, and release the wire harness clips from the steering column.
    16.  
    17. Remove the steering column by removing the attaching nuts and bolts.
    18.  
    19. Remove the shift lever housing (M/T Models) or shift liver (A/T Models).
    20.

On the driver-s side: From under the dash, disconnect the left engine compartment wire harness connectors, the driver's door wire harness connector, the roof wire harness connectors, and the left side wire harness connector, and disconnect the left engine compartment wire harness connectors and the left side wire harness connector from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
  24.  
  25. If equipped with climate control: From under the dash, disconnect the air hose, and then remove it.
  26.  
  27. From the shift lever portion: Remove the clip, and remove the left rear heater joint duct. Disconnect the floor wire harness connector, the SRS unit connector, the parking brake switch connector, and the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor connector, and detach the wire harness clips. Using a TORX® T30 bit, remove the ground bolt.

  29. From the middle portion: From under the dash, disconnect the A/C wire harness connector.
  30.  
  31. From the passenger-s side: From under the dash, disconnect the passenger's door wire harness connector, the right side wire harness connectors, the antenna lead connector, and the right engine compartment wire harness connectors. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness connectors and the audio wire harness connector from the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box. Detach the harness clip. With premium sound system: Disconnect the stereo amplifier connectors.

  33. Detach all of the harness and the connector clips.
  34.  
  35. Detach the harness clip and the clip fastening the relay from the brake pedal support member. Remove the bolts then remove the member, and disconnect the TPMS control unit connector.
  36.  
  37. Remove bolts and remove the center joint bracket.
  38.  
  39. Remove the special bolts from outside the passenger's door.
  40.  
  41. Slightly screw the collar bolt into the space adjuster with 8 mm hexagonal wench.
  42.  
  43. If the collar bolts are not screwed fully into the fixed space adjuster when removing the special bolts, screw collar bolt into the fixed space adjuster.
  44.  
  45. From outside the driver's door, remove the caps and remove the bolts from outside the driver's door.
  46.  
  47. Lift up on the dashboard to release it from the guide pins. Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the collar nuts on the passenger's side.

  49. Disconnect the connector. Remove the clips, ducts, and the drain hose. Then remove the mounting bolt, mounting nuts, and the blower-heater unit.
  50.  
  51. Remove the two screws and remove the cover.
  52.  
  53. Disconnect the connector from the blower motor. Remove the wire harness clip.
  54.  
  55. Disconnect these connectors: The mode control motor, the power transistor, the evaporator temperature sensor, the passenger's air mix control motor (with climate control), and the recirculation control motor. Remove the wire harness clips.
  56.  
  57. Disconnect the connector from the air mix control motor. Remove the wire harness clips, the connector clip, and the wire harness.
  58.  
  59. Remove the self-tapping screws and the passenger's heater duct. Remove the self-tapping screws and the expansion valve cover. Remove the self-tapping screw and the heater core cover. Remove the self-tapping screws, the heater pipe bracket, and the grommet, and carefully pull out the heater core.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  2.  
  3. Refill the engine cooling system to the correct level.
  4.  
  5. Recharge the A/C refrigerant.
  6.

Honda Civic 2007-2008


NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Discharge the air conditioning system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the heater hoses. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.
  6.  
  7. Remove the subdisplay visor. Remove the navigation system, if equipped. On vehicles without navigation system remove the radio.
  8.  
  9. Remove the dashboard retaining screws. Detach the retaining clips along the lower edge of the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Detach the retaining clips along the upper edge of the instrument panel. Gently pull forward to release the hooks from the holder of the gauge module.
  12.  
  13. Remove the instrument panel.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove the wire harness clip. Disconnect the connector from the recirculation control motor.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the connectors from the mode control motor, the evaporator temperature sensor and the power transistor. Remove the wire clip harness.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the connectors from the air mix control motor and the air conditioning wire harness. Remove the connector clip and the wire harness clips.
  20.  
  21. Remove the mounting bolt, mounting nuts and the heater/blower unit from the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Remove the self taping screws, remove the grommet and carefully pry out the heater core.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

NOTE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant. Disconnect the heat shield from the exhaust manifold. Remove the battery.
  4.  
  5. Discharge the air conditioning system. Disconnect the suction and the receiver lines from the evaporator core.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp. Disconnect the heater control cable from the valve. Turn the valve arm to the fully open position.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mounting bolt from the heater valve. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater unit. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit. Disconnect the air conditioning lines from the evaporator housing.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radio panel retaining clips and remove the panel. Remove the radio retaining screws and pull the unit forward. Disconnect the antenna lead and electrical connectors and remove the radio.
  12.  
  13. Remove the driver-s side air bag. Remove the steering wheel and cable reel. Remove the steering column covers.
  14.  
  15. Remove the combination switch assembly from the column shaft by disconnecting the connectors and removing the screws. Disconnect the ignition switch connectors from the under dash fuse/relay box.
  16.  
  17. Remove the steering joint bolt, at the base of the column. Remove the steering column retaining bolts and remove the column.
  18.  
  19. Remove the driver-s side lower dash cover. Remove the passenger-s side lower dash cover. Remove the drivers and passengers side front console cover.
  20.  
  21. Remove the passenger-s side air bag assembly.
  22.  
  23. Remove the kick panels and A-pillar trim from both the drivers and passenger-s side.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Remove the ground bolts.
  26.  
  27. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.
  28.  
  29. Remove the blower/evaporator housing from the vehicle.
  30.  
  31. Remove the mounting bolts, the center brackets and the radio mounting brackets.
  32.  
  33. Remove the SRS unit. Remove the defroster outlet and wire harness clips.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the connectors from the mode control motor and the air mix control motor. Remove the wire harness clip.

  37. Remove the mounting nuts, the mounting bolts and remove the heater unit from the vehicle.

  39. Remove the heater core cover. Remove the heater core.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  4.  
  5. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Enter the antitheft codes for the radio and the navigation system. Set the clock.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine. Hold the idle speed at 3000 RPM-s in neutral until the radiator fan comes on or the temperature reached 176 degrees.
  10.  
  11. Let the engine idle for about five minutes with the throttle fully closed.
  12.  
  13. If the radiator fan comes on during the five minutes, do not count this toward the five minute programming time.
  14.  
  15. Reprogram the ECM engine idle characteristics. Be sure all electrical items are OFF.
  16.  
  17. Reset the ECM with the HDS. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Wait two seconds.
  18.  
  19. Start the engine. Hold the idle speed at 3000 RPM-s in neutral until the radiator fan comes on or the temperature reached 194 degrees.
  20.  
  21. Let the engine idle for about five minutes with the throttle fully closed.
  22.  
  23. If the radiator fan comes on during the five minutes, do not count this toward the five minute programming time.
  24.  

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008


CAUTION
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and precautions and procedures in the SRS section before doing repairs or service.

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the suction and receiver lines from the evaporator core.
  6.  
  7. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Slide the hose clamps back, then disconnect the inlet heater hose and the outlet heater hose from the heater core. Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on the electrical parts or the painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
  10.  
  11. Remove the dashboard (instrument panel).
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the drain hose. Remove the clips, the mounting bolts, the mounting nuts, and the blower-heater unit.
  14.  
  15. Remove the blower unit from the heater unit.
  16.  
  17. Remove the self-tapping screws and the pipe cover. Remove the self-tapping screw and the pipe clamp, then carefully pull out the heater core without bending the inlet and outlet pipes.
  18.  
  19. Remove the self-tapping screws and the pipe cover. Remove the bolts, the inlet and outlet pipes, and the expansion valve. If necessary, remove the self-tapping screws and the blower resistor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the evaporator temperature sensor connector, then remove the self-tapping screws and the duct (I). Pull out the evaporator core with the plate.

To install:

  1. Install the heater core and the evaporator core in the reverse order of removal.
  2.  
  3. Install the heater unit in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    WARNING
    Do not interchange the inlet and outlet heater hoses, and install the hose clamps securely.

    1. With air conditioning; be sure to connect the drain hose securely.
    2.  
    3. Adjust the air mix control cable, the mode control cable, and the recirculation control cable.
    4.  
    5. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system.
    6.  
    7. Set the clock.
    8.  
    9. Refill the cooling system with engine coolant.
    10.  
    11. Make sure that there is no coolant leakage.
    12.  
    13. Make sure that there is no air leakage.
    14.
