Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007


NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  2.  
  3. Remove the center console as follows:

    If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob
     
    Detach the center console retaining clips and pull the assembly upward
     
    If equipped with heated seats, detach the heat switch connectors
     
    Pry up on the right side of the console pocket, detach the clips and remove the pocket
     
    Remove the screws, detach the clips and disconnect the front power accessory connector
     
    Open the console lid and remove the console mat
     
    If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket electrical connector
     
    Remove the console retaining screws and remove the console from the vehicle
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the driver-s side lower dashboard cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the passenger-s side lower dashboard cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the center pocket assembly. Remove the glove box.
  10.  
  11. Remove the driver-s side under cover panel.
  12.  
  13. Remove the drivers and passengers kick panels.
  14.  
  15. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
  16.  
  17. Remove the steering column as follows:

    Remove the driver-s air bag assembly
     
    Remove the steering wheel
     
    Remove the steering column covers
     
    Remove the steering joint cover
     
    Release the tilt/telescopic lever and adjust the column in the full up position
     
    Tighten the tilt/telescopic lever
     
    Hold the slider shaft on the column using a piece of wire

    Release the tilt/telescopic lever and adjust the column to the full up position
     
    Tighten the tilt/telescopic lever
     
    Disconnect the wire harness from the combination switch and remove the switch
     
    Disconnect the connectors from the ignition switch and release the wire harness clips from the column
     
    Remove the steering joint bolt and disconnect the steering joint from the pinion shaft
     
    Remove the steering column retaining nuts and remove the column from the vehicle

  19. Remove the driver-s side center lower cover.
  20.  
  21. Remove the passenger-s side center lower cover and rear duct vent. Remove the SRS control unit.
  22.  
  23. On the driver-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  24.  
  25. In the middle section of the dashboard, disconnect the parking brake switch connector, radio antenna connector and lead. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector.
  26.  
  27. On the passenger-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  28.  
  29. Remove the brake pedal support member.
  30.  
  31. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.

  33. Carefully remove the dashboard/steering hanger beam through the front door opening.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

NOTE
Make sure to acquire the anti-theft code from the radio and write down the frequencies for the radio-s preset buttons.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait for at least 3 minutes for the air bag module to deplete its energy before working the on the instrument panel or steering wheel.

  3. Adjust the steering column upward.
  4.  
  5. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover and disconnect the VSA OFF switch wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob.
  8.  
  9. Remove the center console top panel as follows:
    1. Open the utility pocket lid, the front accessory power socket lid, and the console armrest.
    2.  
    3. Hold the utility pocket lid and the front accessory power socket lid, and gently pull them up to detach the front clips.
    4.  
    5. Detach the clips and the hook along the edge of the panel.
    6.  
    7. Pry up on the rear corner edges of the console box trim with the appropriate trim tool to detach the clips, and pull the panel up to detach the clip.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the front accessory power socket connector. If equipped with seat heaters: Disconnect the driver's seat heater switch connector and the front passenger's seat heater switch connector.
    10.  
    11. If equipped with manual transmission and seat heaters: Detach the harness clip fastening the passenger's seat heater switch harness from the boot plate.
    12.  
    13. Remove the utility inner pocket (A) from the center console panel (B) by pulling it up to detach the hooks (C). Remove the screws, the beverage holder (D), and the console box trim (E) from the panel.
    14.  
    15. If equipped with manual transmission: Remove the screws and the shift lever boot.
    16.

  11. Gently pull out the center console rear panel to detach the clips, and remove the panel.
  12.  
  13. If equipped, detach the harness clips fastening the front seat heater switch harnesses from the center console.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the console accessory power socket connector and the auxiliary jack assembly connector, and detach the harness clip.
  16.  
  17. Remove the screws and the bolts securing the center console.
  18.  
  19. Detach the clips by pulling the front bottom edges of the center console out from both sides, and pull up the console to release the hooks, then remove the center console.
  20.  
  21. Remove the driver's dashboard center lower cover.
  22.  
  23. Remove the passenger's dashboard center lower cover.
  24.  
  25. Open the glove box and disconnect the glove box damper from the pivot.
  26.  
  27. Remove the glove box mounting bolts.
  28.  
  29. While holding the glove box, release the glove box stop on each side from the dashboard by pushing them in, then remove the glove box.
  30.  
  31. Remove the kick panels on both sides.
  32.  
  33. Pull the door opening seals away from the A-pillar trim.
  34.  
  35. Hit the upper clip in the A-pillar trim with a rubber mallet. The clip is located under the point where the triangle mark on the edge of the trim indicates. Hitting the clip breaks the projections on the pin and pushes it into the grommet on the body.
  36.  
  37. Pull the top of the A-pillar trim back by hand to remove the upper clip from the body.
  38.  
  39. Pull the A-pillar trim by hand to detach the clips. Pull the trim up from the dashboard and remove it.
    NOTE
    Replacement A-pillar clips will be needed for installation.

  41. Remove the steering column as follows:
    1. Remove the driver's airbag.
    2.  
    3. Remove the steering wheel.
    4.  
    5. Remove the steering column covers.
    6.  
    7. Remove the steering joint cover.
    8.  
    9. Loosen the upper steering joint bolt, and remove the lower steering joint bolt. Disconnect the steering joint by moving the steering joint toward the column.
      WARNING
      Do not disconnect the steering joint from the column shaft.

    10.  
    11. Disconnect the wire harness connectors from the combination switch assembly/cable reel.
    12.  
    13. Remove the combination switch assembly/cable reel from the steering column shaft by removing the three screws.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the connectors from the ignition switch, and release the wire harness clips from the steering column.
    16.  
    17. Remove the steering column by removing the attaching nuts and bolts.
    18.

  43. Remove the shifter assembly.
  44.  
  45. On the driver-s side disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  46.  
  47. In the center section, remove the left rear heater joint duct, disconnect the floor wiring harness, SRS unit connector, parking brake switch connector, yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor, A/C wiring harness. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harnesses that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  48.  
  49. On the passenger-s side, disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harnesses that interfere with the removal of the dashboard.
  50.  
  51. Remove the brake pedal support member.
  52.  
  53. Remove bolts and the center joint bracket.
  54.  
  55. Remove the special bolts from outside the passenger's door as follows:
    1. Remove the caps.
    2.  
    3. Loosen the special bolt until its threads have come off the side bracket of the steering hanger beam. The bolt will be screwed into the inside threads of the collar bolt by loosening the bolt. Because of the thread lock on the threads of the bolt, the bolt and the collar bolt will be fixed.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the bolt again to screw the collar bolt into the fixed space adjuster until it is stopped by the stopper. This will provide a gap between the collar bolt and the body.
    6.  
    7. Remove the bolts.

  57. Screw the collar bolt slightly into the space adjuster with 8 mm hexagonal wench.
  58.  
  59. If the collar bolts are not screwed fully into the fixed space adjuster when removing the special bolts, screw collar bolt into the fixed space adjuster in the same way as outlined in the previous step.

  61. From outside the driver's door, remove the caps and then remove the bolts from outside the driver's door.

  63. Lift up on the dashboard to release it from the guide pins. Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the collar nuts on the passenger's side.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Specific to:

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Remove the radio panel retaining clips and remove the panel. Remove the radio retaining screws and pull the unit forward. Disconnect the antenna lead and electrical connectors and remove the radio.
  2.  
  3. Remove the driver-s side air bag. Remove the steering wheel and cable reel. Remove the steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Remove the combination switch assembly from the column shaft by disconnecting the connectors and removing the screws. Disconnect the ignition switch connectors from the under dash fuse/relay box.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering joint bolt, at the base of the column. Remove the steering column retaining bolts and remove the column.
  8.  
  9. Remove the driver-s side lower dash cover. Remove the passenger-s side lower dash cover. Remove the drivers and passengers side front console cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the passenger-s side air bag assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the kick panels and A-pillar trim from both the drivers and passenger-s side.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect all electrical connectors, air hoses and harness that interfere with the removal of the dashboard. Remove the ground bolts.
  16.  
  17. Open the driver-s side door remove the bolts and clips after remove their protective caps. Lift upward on the dashboard/steering hanger beam to release if from the guide pins. Be sure all electrical connectors are unplugged.

NOTE
Note these following items:



Use the appropriate trim tools to avoid damage when removing components.
 
Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard/steering hanger beam.
 
Take care not to scratch the dashboard, body and other related parts.
 
Put on gloves to protect your hands.
 

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait for 3 minutes before starting work.
  4.  
  5. Remove the following:

    Driver's dashboard lower cover
     
    Driver's dashboard undercover
     
    Passenger's dashboard undercover
     
    Center console
     
    Glove box
     
    Kick panel, both sides
     
    A-pillar trim, both sides
     
    Steering column. See -STEERING- section.
     
    Passenger's heater duct
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt securing the under-dash fuse/relay box.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear heater upper duct (A) as follows:
    1. Remove the insulator (B).
    2.  
    3. Detach the clips.
    4.  
    5. Lift the rear of the duct upward, then remove it.

  11. Disconnect the engine compartment wire harness connectors (A), floor wire harness connectors (B), roof wire harness connector (C), door wire harness connector (D), and EPS sub-wire harness connector (E) from the under-dash fuse/relay box (F) and from the dashboard wire harness in-line connectors.

  13. From under the dash, disconnect the driver's door wire harness connectors (A), brake switch connector (B), accelerator pedal position sensor connector (C), and on M/T models, clutch switch connector(s) (D).

  15. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (A), shift lock solenoid connector (B) (A/T models), fuel pump connector (C), SRS control unit connector (D), secondary heated oxygen sensor connector (E), and detach the wire harness clips (F). Using a TORX® T30 bit, remove the ground bolt (G).

  17. Inside the glove box opening, disconnect the recirculation control cable, mode control cable, and heater sub-harness connectors.
  18.  
  19. From under the dashboard, disconnect the air mix control cable. Take care not to kink any cables.
  20.  
  21. From under the dash on the passenger-s side, disconnect the ECM/PCM connectors, engine wire harness connector, passenger's door wire harness connector, front SRS sensor sub-wire harness connector, and antenna connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the bolts, then remove the brake pedal support member.
  24.  
  25. Remove the special bolts (A, B) from outside the passenger's door as follows:
    1. Remove the caps (C).
    2.  
    3. Loosen the special bolt until its threads have come off the fixed sleeve (D). The bolt will be screwed into the inside threads of the adjusting nut (E) by loosening the bolt. Because of the thread lock on the threads of the bolt, the bolt and adjusting nut will be fixed.
    4.  
    5. Loosen the bolt again to screw the adjusting nut into the fixed sleeve fully. This will provide a gap (F) between the adjusting nut and the body.
    6.  
    7. Remove the two rear special bolts (A).
      WARNING
      The forward bolt (B) cannot be removed from the body because the passenger's door interferes with the removal of it. To prevent damaging the door and/or the bolt, do not move the door past the second detent position while the forward bolt is loosened.

  27. If the adjusting nuts are not screwed fully into the fixed sleeve when removing the special bolts, screw adjusting nuts into the fixed sleeve with a 21 mm open-end wrench. In this case, the special bolt should be replaced with a new one because its thread lock is worn out.

  29. From outside the driver's door, remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C). The forward B Bolt can be removed from the body by opening the driver's door to the third detent position to gain clearance.

  31. Make sure the forward special bolt (A) on the passenger's side is free from the dashboard by pulling it outward.
  32.  
  33. Lift up on the dashboard (B) to release it from the guide pins (C).
  34.  
  35. Have an assistant holding the dashboard apart from the body, open the driver's door fully. Carefully remove the dashboard through the driver's door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the adjusting nuts on passenger's side.
    WARNING
    Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center console opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back. Also, push the forward bolt on the passenger's side into the body to prevent the bolt and/or the passenger's door from getting damage.

To install:

  1. Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Open the driver's door fully, and insert the dashboard through the driver's door opening.
    2.  
    3. Do not move the passenger's door past the second detent position while the forward bolt is loosened.
    4.  
    5. Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
    6.  
    7. Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
    8.  
    9. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and all of the cables are connected properly.
    10.  
    11. If you screwed the adjusting nut into the fixed sleeve with an open end wrench to remove the dashboard, and any of the special bolts came off the adjusting nut before having screwed the adjusting nut fully into the fixed sleeve, replace the special bolt with a new one.
    12.  
    13. Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw all of the adjusting nuts into the fixed sleeves fully by hand.
    14.  
    15. After setting the dashboard on the body, reinstall all of the mounting bolts to the dashboard, tighten the center bracket and the driver's side bracket to the specified torque, then torque the special bolt (A) on the passenger's side:

      First screw the special bolt into the adjusting nut (B), they will be fixed because of the thread lock on the bolt. Continue tightening the bolt with the adjusting nut, the externally threaded nut is loosened from the fixed sleeve (C) until the nut contacts the inside face of the body. Then tighten the bolts again to the specified torque.
       
      If the adjusting nut doesn't contact the body while tightening the special bolt fully, the nut shouldn't be loosen with an open-end wrench. In this case, replace this special bolt with a new one.
       

    16.  
    17. Adjust the recirculation control cable, mode control cable, and air mix control cable.
    18.  
    19. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
    20.  
    21. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system.
    22.  
    23. Set the clock.
    24.  
    25. Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
    26.
