3.0L Engine



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio unit and the navigation system, and then write down the audio presets.
  2.  
  3. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position, and then remove the key from the ignition switch and lock the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and then disconnect the positive cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the battery.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts securing the hood support strut brackets on both sides of the hood. Secure the hood in a vertical position, and then install the right strut bracket by turning it over with its bolt in the lower position.
  10.  
  11. Remove the battery base.
  12.  
  13. Remove the air intake assembly.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector and reverse lockout solenoid connector.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector and input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the starter cable and wire, and then remove the starter motor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the cable bracket, and then disconnect the change cables from the top of the transmission housing. Carefully remove both cables and the bracket together to avoid bending the cables.
  22.  
  23. Carefully remove the slave cylinder to avoid bending the clutch line.
  24.  
  25. Remove the front engine mount stop and the front mount bolt.
  26.  
  27. Remove the rear engine mount stop.
  28.  
  29. Remove the upper transmission mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Remove and plug the return hose from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  32.  
  33. Remove the power steering pump outlet line from the power steering pump, and remove the hose from its clamp.
  34.  
  35. Remove the front bulkhead cover.
  36.  
  37. Install the engine hanger as follows:
    1. Attach the front arm to the front cylinder head with a spacer and the 10 x 1.25 mm bolt.
    2.  
    3. Attach the rear arm to the rear cylinder head with the 8 x 1.25 mm bolt.
    4.  
    5. Install the engine support hanger to the vehicle, and attach the hook to the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut by hand, and lift and support the engine.

  39. Remove the transmission mount bracket and ground cable.

  41. Remove the steering joint cover.
  42.  
  43. Make a reference mark across the steering joint and steering gearbox pinion shaft. Remove the steering joint bolt, and disconnect the steering joint by removing the steering joint toward the steering column. Hold the slider shaft on the column with a piece of wire between the joint yoke on the slider shaft and the joint yoke on the upper shaft.

  45. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. Remove the front wheels.
  48.  
  49. Drain the transmission fluid. Install the drain plug with a new washer.
  50.  
  51. Remove the splash shield.
  52.  
  53. Separate the tie-rod ball joint.
  54.  
  55. Remove the damper fork.
  56.  
  57. Separate the knuckle from the lower arm.
  58.  
  59. Disconnect the power steering pressure switch connector.
  60.  
  61. Remove the exhaust pipe.
  62.  
  63. Remove the left and right halfshaft inboard joints.
  64.  
  65. Remove the intermediate shaft.
  66.  
  67. Remove the lower engine rear mount mounting bolts.
  68.  
  69. Remove the lower transmission mount mounting nuts.
  70.  
  71. Remove the subframe mid mounts from both sides.
  72.  
  73. Attach the subframe adapter to the subframe by wrapping the band over the subframe and attaching the end of the band to the subframe adapter with the pin.
  74.  
  75. Raise the jack, and line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, and then attach them securely.

  77. Remove the four bolts securing the stiffeners, and four bolts securing the front subframe, and lower the front subframe.

  79. Remove the front engine mount upper bracket.
  80.  
  81. Remove the clutch cover.
  82.  
  83. Support the transaxle assembly with a transmission jack.
  84.  
  85. Remove the lower transmission mounting bolts.
  86.  
  87. Pull the transmission away from the engine until the transmission mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate.
  88.  
  89. Slowly lower the transmission about 6 in. (15 cm). Check once again that all hoses and electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the transmission, and then lower it all the way.
  90.  

To install:

  1. With the transaxle assembly on the transmission jack, raise it to engine level.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower transmission mounting bolts and tighten to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the clutch cover and tighten the mounting bolts to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the front engine mount upper bracket and tighten to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Support the subframe with the subframe adapter and a jack.
  10.  
  11. Install the front suspension subframe and front suspension subframe stiffeners.

  13. Align the reference marks that you noted when you removed the transaxle with the edge of both rear stiffeners, and then tighten the rear subframe mounting bolts, the front bolts, and the stiffener bolts to the specified torque.
  14.  
  15. Install the subframe mid mounts on both sides.

  17. Install the lower transmission mount mounting nuts and tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the lower engine rear mount mounting bolts and tighten to 36 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  20.  
  21. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  22.  
  23. Refill the power steering reservoir to the correct level.
  24.  
  25. Refill the transaxle fluid to the correct level.
  26.  
  27. Check and adjust the wheel alignment as necessary.
  28.  
  29. Start the engine and check for leaks.

3.5L Engine



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2008

  1. Remove the hood support struts from both sides of the engine hood. Secure the hood in a vertical position, and then reinstall the support strut.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine appearance cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front grille cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clip and the air duct.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the battery cables and remove the battery.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air intake assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the battery base bolts, loosen the two bolts, remove the cable clamps, and remove the battery base.
  14.  
  15. Remove the nut and the clamp, and then move the under-hood fuse/relay box out of the way.
  16.  
  17. Remove the harness from the clamp and the nuts, and then remove the strut brace.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector, the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector, and then remove the harness clips.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid connector, and then remove the harness mounting bolt, the harness clamps, and the harness.
  22.  
  23. Remove the starter cable nut and the harness clamp, disconnect the starter cable, and disconnect the connector.
  24.  
  25. Remove the starter and the vacuum hose bracket.
  26.  
  27. Remove the harness bracket mounting bolt and the harness bracket.
  28.  
  29. Remove the lock pins, the shift cable bracket bolts, and the shift cable bracket, and then disconnect the shift cables from the select lever and the change lever. Carefully remove both cables and the bracket together to avoid bending the cables.
  30.  
  31. Remove the slave cylinder mounting bolts and the bracket mounting nut, and then carefully move the slave cylinder out of the way to avoid bending the clutch line.
  32.  
  33. Remove the connector bracket from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.
  34.  
  35. Remove the harness clamp bracket from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
  36.  
  37. Lift and support the engine with engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm to the front cylinder head with several spacers and the bolt (10 x 1.25 mm). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033) to the rear cylinder head and the bolt (8 x 1.25mm), and then attach the rear arm to the 2008-2009 V6 attachment arm.

  39. Remove the front engine mount stop nuts, the front engine mount stop, the vacuum hose bracket, the harness bracket, the front engine mount bolt, and disconnect the vacuum hose.

  41. Remove the power steering line holder mounting bolt, and the power steering hose clamp.
  42.  
  43. Remove the two heat shield bolts, the heat shield and the power steering gearbox mounting bracket bolts, and the power steering gearbox mounting bracket.
  44.  
  45. Remove the rear engine mount bolts.
  46.  
  47. Remove the power steering gearbox stiffener bolts and the power steering stiffener plates.
  48.  
  49. Remove the upper transmission mount bracket bolts.
  50.  
  51. Remove the three upper transmission mount bracket bolts, the upper transmission mount bracket, the ground cable mounting bolt, and the ground cable.
  52.  
  53. Remove the upper transmission mount bolts.
  54.  
  55. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  56.  
  57. Remove the front wheels.
  58.  
  59. Remove the front splash shield.
  60.  
  61. Drain the transaxle fluid, and then reinstall the drain plug.
  62.  
  63. Remove the damper fork.
  64.  
  65. Separate the knuckle ball joint from the lower arm.
  66.  
  67. Remove the exhaust pipe and gaskets.
  68.  
  69. Remove the subframe mid mount bolts and the subframe mid mount from both sides.
  70.  
  71. Remove the lower transmission mount mounting nuts.
  72.  
  73. Remove the power steering line holder bolt and the power steering line from the clamp.
  74.  
  75. Attach the front subframe adapter to the front suspension subframe and hang the belt of the subframe adapter over the front of the subframe, and then secure the belt with its stop.
  76.  
  77. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the front subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, and then securely attach them with four bolts.
  78.  
  79. Remove the four front stiffeners bolts, the front stiffeners, the four rear stiffeners bolts, the rear stiffeners, and the front suspension subframe.
  80.  
  81. Remove the front engine mount bracket bolts and the front engine mount bracket.
  82.  
  83. Remove the lower transmission mount bolts and lower transmission mount.
  84.  
  85. Pry the left halfshaft inboard joint from the differential using a prybar.
  86.  
  87. Drive the inboard joint of the right driveshaft off of the intermediate shaft using a drift and a hammer.
  88.  
  89. Remove the intermediate shaft.
  90.  
  91. Remove the clutch cover and the harness cover.
  92.  
  93. Support the transaxle assembly with a suitable transmission jack.
  94.  
  95. Remove the lower transmission mounting bolts.
  96.  
  97. Pull the transaxle away from the engine until the transmission mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate.
  98.  
  99. Slowly lower the transaxle assembly about 6 in. (15 cm). Check once again that all hoses and electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the transaxle, and then lower it completely.
  100.  

To install:

  1. With the transaxle assembly on the transmission jack, raise it to engine level.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower transmission mounting bolts and tighten to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the clutch cover and tighten the cover mounting bolts to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the intermediate shaft.
  8.  
  9. Install both halfshafts. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Halfshafts, Removal and Installation.-
  10.  
  11. Install the lower transmission mount with new bolts and tighten them to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the front engine mount bracket (A), with new bolts and tighten to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Support the front suspension subframe with the front subframe adapter and a jack.
  16.  
  17. Position the steering gearbox washers on the front suspension subframe, and lift the subframe up to the body.
  18.  
  19. Loosely install the new subframe mounting bolts, the new rear stiffener mounting bolts, the front stiffener mounting bolts, the front stiffeners and the rear stiffeners.

  21. Partially tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt; insert the subframe alignment pin through the positioning slot on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole on the subframe, and into the positioning hole on the body, and then tighten the subframe mounting bolt.

    Fig. Loosely tighten the front subframe mounting bolt (A) in the right rear stiffener until the front subframe insulator contacts the body; insert the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning slot (B) on the right rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (C) on the front subframe, and into the positioning hole on the body.

  23. Partially tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt in the same manner.
  24.  
  25. Partially tighten the right and left front subframe mounting bolts.
  26.  
  27. Tighten the right rear mounting bolt to the specified torque with the subframe alignment pin in the positioning hole.
  28.  
  29. Tighten the left rear mounting bolt to the specified torque with the subframe alignment pin in the positioning hole.
  30.  
  31. Tighten the right and left front mounting bolt to the specified torque.
  32.  
  33. Check that the positioning holes and slots are aligned using the subframe alignment pin.
  34.  
  35. Tighten the rear and front stiffener mounting bolts to the specified torque.
  36.  
  37. Remove the jack and front subframe adapter.
  38.  
  39. Install the power steering line holder bolt and the power steering line to the clamp.
  40.  
  41. Install the lower transmission mount mounting nuts and tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  42.  
  43. Install the subframe mid mount on both sides with new bolts.

  45. Install exhaust pipe with the new gaskets and the new nuts.
  46.  
  47. Connect the knuckle ball joint onto the lower arm.

  49. Install the damper fork.
  50.  
  51. Install the front wheels, and set them in the straight-ahead position.
  52.  
  53. Lower the vehicle.
  54.  
  55. Install the upper transmission mounting bolts and tighten to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  56.  
  57. Install the upper transmission mount bracket with new bolts, and connect the ground cable by installing its mounting bolt.

  59. Install the new upper transmission mount bracket bolts and tighten to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).

  61. Install the steering stiffener plates, and loosely tighten the new power steering gear box mounting bolts and the stiffener plate bolts.
