Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Remove some brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the flange bolts while holding the pin A and pin B with a wrench, being careful not to damage the pin boots, and remove the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the pad shim, brake pads and pad retainers.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the pad retainers.
  2.  
  3. Apply a thin coat of M-77 assembly paste part number o8798-9010 to the brake pad sides of the pad shims and the back of the brake pads, wipe excess paste off the shim.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake pads and shim. Install the brake pad with the wear indicator on the inside bottom.

  7. Rotate the caliper piston clockwise into the cylinder. Align the cutout in the piston with the tab on the inner pad by turning the piston back. Lubricate the boot with rubber grease to avoid twisting the piston boot. If the piston boot is twisted, back it out so it is positioned properly.
  8.  
  9. Install the caliper. Install the flange bolts and tighten to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Press the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work.
    NOTE
    Engagement of the brake may require a greater pedal stroke immediately after the brake pads have been replaced as a set. Several applications of the brake pedal will restore the normal pedal stroke.

  13. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  14.  
  15. Add brake fluid as needed.

Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Remove some brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake hose mounting bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the flange bolts while holding respective caliper pin with a wrench. Be careful not to damage the pin boot, and remove the caliper.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pad shims, brake pads and pad retainers.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the pad retainers.
  2.  
  3. Apply a thin coat of M-77 assembly paste part number o8798-9010 to the brake pad sides of the pad shims and the back of the brake pads, wipe excess paste off the shim.

  5. Install the brake pads and shim. Install the brake pad with the wear indicator on the inside bottom.
