  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio or the navigation system, and then write down the audio presets.
  2.  
  3. Align the front wheels straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the battery negative cable, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
  6.  
  7. Remove the access panel from the steering wheel, and then disconnect the driver's airbag 4P connector from the cable reel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two TORX® bolts using a TORX® T30 bit.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the horn switch connector, and then remove the driver's airbag.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the cruise control combination switch, audio remote switch and navigation guide switch connectors (if equipped).
  14.  
  15. Loosen the center steering wheel bolt.
  16.  
  17. Install a commercially available steering wheel puller on the steering wheel. Free the steering wheel from the steering column shaft by turning the pressure bolt of the puller.
  18.  
  19. Remove the steering wheel puller, steering wheel bolt, and steering wheel from the steering column.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead, and then center the cable reel. Do this by first rotating the cable reel clockwise until it stops. Then rotate it counterclockwise about three full turns. The arrow mark on the cable reel label point should point straight up.

  3. Position the two tabs of the turn signal canceling sleeve as shown. Install the steering wheel on to the steering column shaft, making sure the steering wheel hub engages the pins of the cable reel and tabs of the turn signal canceling sleeve. Do not tap on the steering wheel or steering column shaft when installing the steering wheel.

  5. Install the steering wheel bolt and tighten it to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). Connect the audio remote, navigation guide, and cruise control combination switch connectors (if equipped). Make sure the wire harness is routed and fastened properly.
  6.  
  7. Connect the horn switch connector to the driver's airbag.
  8.  
  9. Place the new driver's airbag in the steering wheel, and secure it with new TORX® bolts.
  10.  
  11. Connect the cable reel to the driver's airbag 4P connector, and then install the access panel on the steering wheel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Finish the installation, and note these items:
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II); the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.
    2.  
    3. Enter the anti-theft code for the radio or navigation system, and then enter the audio presets.
    4.  
    5. Set the clock.
    6.  
    7. Verify cruise control, audio remote, voice control and turn signal switch operation.
    8.  
    9. Make sure the steering wheel is centered.

CAUTION
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system.
  2.  
  3. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF, then disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  4.  
  5. Align the front wheels straight ahead, then remove the driver's airbag from the steering wheel as follows:
    1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
    2.  
    3. Remove the access panel from the steering wheel, then disconnect the driver's airbag 4-pin connector from the cable reel.
    4.  
    5. Using a TORX® T30 bit, remove the two TORX® bolts and discard them.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the horn switch connector (1P), then remove the driver's airbag.

  7. Loosen the steering wheel bolt.
  8.  
  9. Install a steering wheel puller on the steering wheel. Free the steering wheel from the steering column shaft by turning the pressure bolt of the puller.
  10.  
  11. Note these items when removing the steering wheel:
    1. Do not tap on the steering wheel or the steering column shaft when removing the steering wheel.
    2.  
    3. If you thread the puller bolts into the wheel hub more than five threads, the bolts will hit the cable reel and damage it. To prevent this, install a pair of jam nuts five threads up on each puller bolt.

  13. Remove the steering wheel puller, then remove the steering wheel bolt and steering wheel from the steering column.

To install:

  1. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead, then center the cable reel. Do this by first rotating the cable reel clockwise until it stops.   5. Install the steering wheel on to the steering column shaft, making sure the steering wheel hub engages the pins of the cable reel and tabs of the turn signal canceling sleeve. Do not tap on the steering wheel or steering column shaft when installing the steering wheel.

  7. Install the steering wheel bolt, and tighten it to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). Connect the cable reel sub harness connector. Make sure the wire harness is routed and fastened properly.

  9. Install the driver's airbag, and confirm that the system is operating properly as follows:
    1. Connect the horn switch 1-pin connector to the driver's airbag.
    2.  
    3. Place the driver's airbag in the steering wheel, and secure it with new TORX® bolts. Tighten to 7.8 ft. lbs. (9.2 Nm).

    5. Connect the cable reel 4-pin connector to the driver's airbag connector, then install the access panel on the steering wheel.

    7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II); the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.

    9. Make sure the horn works.

  11. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery, and do the following items:
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II); the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.
    2.  
    3. Enter the anti-theft code for the audio system.
    4.  
    5. Set the clock.
    6.  
    7. Verify cruise control, horn, and turn signal switch operation.
    8.  
    9. Make sure the steering wheel is centered.
