Specific to:

Honda S2000 2007-2008

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower radiator hose and the thermostat cover, and then remove the thermostat.

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat with a new rubber seal.
  2.  
  3. Install the thermostat cover and the lower radiator hose.
  4.  
  5. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and then bleed air from the cooling system.
  6.  

Specific to:

Honda Fit 2007-2008

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the radiator hoses.
  6.  
  7. Remove the harness holder, the ground cable, harness clamps, the water bypass hose and the engine junction connector clamp from near the thermostat housing.
  8.  
  9. Remove the thermostat housing, then remove the thermostat.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the new thermostat and gasket into place.
  2.  
  3. Remove old liquid gasket from the thermostat housing mating surfaces, bolts and bolt holes.
  4.  
  5. Apply a 1.5 mm wide bead of liquid gasket along the edges of the -rectangular- coolant bypass openings on the housing. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket. If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.
  6.  
  7. Install and tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 8.8 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  8.  

2.4L Engine



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Clean any dirt off the quick connector, thermostat cover, and lower radiator hose.
  4.  
  5. Pull out lock by hand, and then wiggle the quick connector loose, and remove it from the thermostat cover. Do not use any tools to remove the quick connector.

  7. Remove the thermostat.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat with a new O-ring.

  3. Check the quick connector and set ring for cracks or damage. If the connector and/or set ring are cracked or damaged, replace the connector.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the set ring is in place inside the quick connector. If the set ring is off the connector, replace the quick connector.
  6.  
  7. Replace the O-ring in the quick connector.
  8.  
  9. Check the lock. If the lock is damaged or deformed, replace it. When installing the new lock on the connector, press it straight down along the groove.
  10.  
  11. Clean the connecting surface of the thermostat cover, and then apply clean engine coolant around the connecting surface.

  13. Push down the lock, and then push the quick connector onto the thermostat cover until you hear it click.
  14.  
  15. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.

3.0L & 3.5L Engines



Specific to:

Honda Accord 2007-2008

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio unit (and navigation code if equipped), and then write down the audio presets. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then the positive cable, then remove the battery.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the ground cable and thermostat cover, and then remove the thermostat.

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat with new rubber seal.
  2.  
  3. Install the battery. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, and then assemble them and apply grease to prevent corrosion.
  4.  
  5. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and then bleed air from the cooling system.
  6.  

Hybrid



Specific to:

Honda Civic 2007-2008

  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, heater hoses and water bypass hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the water passage and remove the thermostat.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the water passage, thermostat housing mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.
  2.  
  3. Apply a 1.5 mm wide bead of the liquid gasket on the water passage, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, along the broken lines. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install the rubber seal on the thermostat, and then install the thermostat with the pin up.
  6.  
  7. Install the water passage and tighten the mounting bolts to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  8.  
  9. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  10.  
  11. Refill the engine cooling system to the correct level.
  12.  

Non-hybrid



1.8L Engine

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the harness clamp bracket and thermostat cover, and then remove the thermostat.

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat with a new rubber seal.
  2.  
  3. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and then bleed air from the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
  6.  

2.0L Engine

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the splash shield.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower hose and remove the thermostat.

  3. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and then bleed air from the cooling system.
