The 1984-87 models use a Torsion bar front suspension. This change was made to lower the hood line, thus making the vehicle more aerodynamic and improving the driver's view of the road. The suspension consists of two independent torsion bars and front shock absorbers similar to a front strut assembly but without a spring. Both lower forged radius arms are connected with a stabilizer bar.
The 1988-91 models use an upper and lower control arm configuration which uses a coil-over shock absorber assembly. This suspension configuration allows the wheel to remain more parallel with the road surface thus allowing the vehicle to handle better.
