ADJUSTMENT



Air Mix Cable
1984-91 MODELS

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Slide the temperature control to the HOT position.
  4.

  1. Turn the air mix door shaft arm to the left and connect the end of the cable to the arm.
  2.  
  3. Gently slide the cable outer housing back from the end enough to take up slack in the cable but do not make the control lever move.
  4.  
  5. Connect the cable housing to the clamp.
  6.  
  7. Check the operation of the temperature lever.
  8.  

1992-95 MODELS

See Figure 2

  1. Disconnect the heater valve cable from the heater valve.
  2.  
  3. Slide the temperature control to the COOL position.
  4.  
  5. Turn the cable arm to the stop and connect the end of the air mix control cable to the cable arm.
  6.  
  7. Gently slide the air mix control cable outer housing back from the end enough to take up any slack in the air mix control cable, but not enough to make the temperature control lever move.
  8.  
  9. Snap the air mix control cable housing into the cable clamp.
  10.  
  11. Check the operation of the temperature lever.
  12.

Heater Valve Cable
1984-91 MODELS

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Slide the temperature control lever to the HOT position.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the heater control cable at the valve.
  6.  
  7. Gently slide the cable outer housing back from the end enough to take up slack in the cable but do not make the control lever move.
  8.  
  9. Connect the cable housing to the clamp.
  10.  
  11. Check the operation of the temperature lever.
  12.  

1992-95 MODELS

See Figures 4 and 5

  1. Disconnect the heater valve cable from the heater valve.
  2.  
  3. Slide the temperature control lever to the COOL position.
  4.  
  5. Turn the cable arm to the stop and connect the end of the heater valve cable to the cable arm.
  6.  
  7. Gently slide the heater valve cable outer housing back from the end enough to take up slack in the heater valve cable but do not make the control lever move.
  8.  
  9. Hold the end of the heater valve cable housing against the stop, then snap the heater valve cable housing into the cable clamp.
  10.  
  11. Turn the heater valve cable to shut and connect the end of the heater valve cable to the cable arm.
  12.  
  13. Gently slide the heater valve cable outer housing back from the end enough to take up slack in the heater valve cable but do not make the control lever move, then snap the heater valve cable housing into the cable clamp.
  14.  

The air mix control cable should always be adjusted whenever the heater valve cable has been disconnected.

Function Control Cable

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Slide the function control lever to the DEFROST position.
  4.  
  5. Turn the function control shaft to the front and connect the end of the cable to the arm.
  6.  
  7. Gently slide the cable outer housing back from the end enough to take up slack in the cable but do not make the control lever move.
  8.  
  9. Connect the cable housing to the clamp.
  10.  
  11. Check the operation of the temperature lever.
  12.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 8

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control head assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the control cable being replaced, at the control head.
  6.  
  7. Remove the glove box, if required.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the control cables at the heater unit.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the heater control valve cable located in the engine compartment.
  12.  
  13. Install the cable in position and adjust it.
  14.  
  15. Connect the battery cable.
  16.
