Expansion Valve

The expansion valve controls the flow of the refrigerant from the receiver into the evaporator.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and disable the SRS system (if equipped.)
  2.  


WARNING
All SRS wire harnesses are covered with a yellow insulation. Read the SRS precautions found in this section and install the short connectors as described.

  1. Properly discharge the air conditioning system into a refrigerant recovery/recycling machine.
  2.  
  3. Remove the evaporator case from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines at the evaporator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the glove box and support brackets.
  8.  
  9. Loosen and remove the evaporator securing bands.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the air conditioner thermo-switch wire connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the evaporator securing bolts and nuts.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the drain hose and remove the evaporator assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the evaporator case attaching clips and screws.
  18.  
  19. Separate the case halves and remove the evaporator.
  20.  
  21. Separate the expansion valve from the evaporator.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Connect the expansion valve to the evaporator assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the evaporator.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Charge, evacuate and leak test the air conditioning system.
  8.
