Fan Switch

Print

The fan switch is located with the control head and has 5 or 6 speeds including the OFF position. The blower motor always has approximately 12 volts and the fan switch then completes the circuit by supplying a ground through a resistor, thus varying the fan speed.

TESTING

1984-91 Models

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the fan switch and disconnect the wire connector.
  4.
  5. Test for continuity as follows:
    1. With the switch in the OFF position, there should be no continuity between any of the terminals.
    2.
    3. With the switch in the LOW position, there should be continuity between terminals 1, 4 and 6.
    4.
    5. With the switch in the MED/LOW, there should be continuity between terminals 1, 2 and 6.
    6.
    7. With the switch in the MED/HIGH position, there should be continuity between terminals 1, 5 and 6.
    8.
    9. With the switch in the HIGH position, there should be continuity between terminals 1, 3 and 6.
    10.

  6.
  7. If not as specified, replace the fan switch.
