REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1984-87 CRX
  1. Remove the lower dash panel screws, clips and the panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower heater control knob and the lower panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the heater control mount screws and the upper screws from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Pull the panel out and disconnect the wire connectors. Remove the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the four screws, then lift out the gauge assembly and disconnect the wire connectors.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the speedometer cable, then, remove the gauge assembly.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Connect the speedometer cable, then connect the electrical connectors to the gauge assembly and screw in place.
  2.  
  3. Connect the panel, replace the panel, screw in place and reinsert the heater knob and clips.
  4.

1984-87 Civic Hatchback and Sedan
  1. Remove the upper instrument panel caps, screws and the panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the gauge assembly screws and lift out the assembly to disconnect the wire connectors.
  4.

  1. Disconnect the speedometer cable and remove the gauge assembly.
  2.  

To Install:
  1. Plug in the electrical connectors and the speedometer cable to the gauge assembly.
  2.  
  3. Screw gauge assembly back in place and re-fasten the instrument panel above it.
  4.  

1984-87 Civic Wagon

See Figure 2

  1. Remove the dashboard lower panel screws and the panel; this allows access to the instrument panel retaining bolts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel bolts and raise the panel. Disconnect the wiring connectors and the speedometer cable. Remove the instrument panel with the gauge assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the gauge assembly screws and the assembly from the instrument panel.
  6.

To Install:
  1. Plug in the electrical connectors and the speedometer cable to the gauge assembly.
  2.  
  3. Screw gauge assembly back in place and re-fasten the instrument panel above it.

1988-91 Civic Hatchback and Sedan

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two caps and screw from the top of the instrument housing.
  4.  
  5. Remove the four screws that retain the instrument cluster surround and remove the surround panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the four screws that retain the instrument cluster and pull it forward. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the electrical connections.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument cluster from the dashboard.
  10.  
  11. Install the instrument cluster in position and connect the speedometer cable, and electrical leads. Make sure the speedometer cable seats fully.
  12.  

1988-91 Civic Wagon and CRX
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two covers and the screws from the top of the instrument cluster surround.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two screws from under the surround and pull it away from the dashboard. Disconnect the electrical leads from the switches.
  6.  
  7. Remove the instrument cluster retaining screws and pull the cluster forward. Disconnect the electrical leads and the speedometer cable.
  8.  

To Install:
  1. Put the instrument cluster in position and connect the speedometer cable, and electrical leads. Make sure the speedometer cable seats fully. Connect all switch leads before securing the surround panel.
  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  

1992-95 Models

WARNING
All SRS wire harnesses are covered with a yellow insulation. Read the SRS precautions found in this section and install the short connectors as described.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and disable the SRS system.
  2.  
  3. Pry the hazard warning switch from the instrument panel taking care to not damage it.
  4.  
  5. Remove the three instrument panel screws and then the panel from the dashboard.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the 4-pin connector from the instrument panel.
  8.  

Use a clean protective cloth to lay on steering column for the gauge assembly to rest upon.

  1. Remove the four gauge assembly screws and pull out the assembly.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the gauge assembly and remove.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Place the gauge assembly in dashboard.
  2.  
  3. Connect the 4-pin connector to the dashboard.
  4.  
  5. Install the retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. Enable the SRS system.
  10.
