REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.
  5. Keep the rear halfshafts in their normal horizontal position by raising the lower arms to their normal road level position.
  6.
  7. Mark the position of the driveshaft in relation to the pinion flange, then disconnect the driveshaft from the pinion flange.
  8.
  9. Using a suitable inch lb. torque wrench, turn the pinion flange by the pinion nut and record the reading. This is the total bearing preload.
  10.
  11. Hold the pinion flange using a suitable holding tool and remove the pinion nut.
  12.
  13. Remove the pinion flange and use a suitable removal tool to remove the pinion seal.
  14.

To install:
  1. Lubricate the lip of a new pinion seal.
  2.
  3. Use a suitable installation tool to install the pinion seal.
  4.
  5. Install the pinion flange and pinion nut. Tighten the pinion nut until the reading on an inch lb. torque wrench is the same as that recorded prior to removal. The actual torque specification for the pinion flange nut is 127 ft. lbs. (175 Nm).
  6.
  7. Connect the driveshaft to the pinion flange, aligning the marks that were made during the removal procedure. Tighten the bolts to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
  8.
  9. Install the wheel and tire assemblies.
  10.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.
