Removal & Installation



2.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Front cover
     
    Timing belt.
     
    Crankshaft timing sprocket
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil pump pickup tube
     
    Oil pump
     

  6.  

To install:


NOTE
Use new gaskets and O-ring seals for assembly.

  1. Apply liquid gasket to the oil pump and to the bolt hole threads.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump. Tighten the 8mm bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) and the 6mm bolts to 86 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Oil pump pickup tube. Tighten the fasteners to 86 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Oil pan
     
    Crankshaft timing sprocket
     
    Timing belt.
     
    Front cover
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  

2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Oil pan
     
    Pump chain
     
    Pump sprocket
     
    Pump

  1. Make sure that No.1 piston is at TDC.
  2.  
  3. Align the dowel pin on the rear balance shaft with the mark on the pump.
  4.  
  5. Install the pump and sprocket loosely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the balance shaft holding pin.
  8.  
  9. Torque the 10mm mounting bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm); the 8mm bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Torque the pulley bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Torque the tensioner bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 nm).
  14.
