Control Arm Bushing Replacement



Rear Inner Bushing

The lower control arm front inner bushing and the damper fork bushing are serviced with the control arm as an assembly. You can replace the rear inner bushing, as follows:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Rear bushing bracket
     
    Rear bushing
     

  4.  

To install:


NOTE
Use a new self-locking nut for assembly.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Rear bushing. Tighten the nut to 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm).
     
    Rear bushing bracket. Tighten the bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm).
     
    Front wheel

  3. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.

Removal & Installation



2001 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Damper fork lower bolt
     
    Stabilizer bar link
     
    Front inner flange bolt
     
    Rear bushing bracket bolts
     
    Lower control arm
     

  4.  

To install:


NOTE
Use new self-locking nuts and split pins for assembly.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm. Tighten the front flange bolt to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
     
    Rear bushing bracket. Tighten the bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm).
     
    Stabilizer bar link. Tighten the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
     
    Damper fork lower bolt. Tighten the nut to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
     
    Lower ball joint. Tighten the nut to 36-43 ft. lbs. (49-59 Nm).
     
    Front wheel

  3. Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.

2002-06 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Stabilizer link
     
    Lower arm from the knuckle
     
    Lower arm
     

  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Lower arm bolts: 61 ft. lbs. (83 nm)
     
    Ball stud nut: 2002-04: 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm); 2005-06 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)
     
    Stabilizer link: 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm)
