Removal & Installation



2.0L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air duct from the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiring harness connector from the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Label and detach all vacuum hoses from the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Detach the accelerator cable.
  10.  
  11. Detach and plug the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  12.  
  13. Remove the throttle body mounting fasteners.
  14.  
  15. Remove the throttle body.
  16.  
  17. Using a suitable plastic scraper, remove any gasket material from the throttle body and air intake plenum.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure making sure of the following:

    The throttle cable is properly routed, installed, and has 0.39-0.47 inches (10-12mm) of deflection.
     
    If equipped, make sure the transmission and cruise control cables are properly routed and installed correctly. With the engine at a warm idle the cruise control cable should have 0.18-0.22 inches (4.5-5.5mm) of free play.
     
    The cooling system is topped off and bled as necessary.

2.4L Engine
  1. Connect the HDS while the engine is stopped.
  2.  
  3. Select the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
  4.  
  5. Do the TP POSITION CHECK in the ETCS TEST.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the intake air duct (A).
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the throttle body connector (B), the EVAP canister purge valve connector (C) and the MAP sensor connector (D).
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the water bypass hoses (E), and plug them.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the vacuum hose (F).
  16.  
  17. Remove the harness clip (G) and the throttle body (H).

To install:

  1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new gasket (I).
  2.  
  3. Perform the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure, as follows:
    1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, rear window defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
    2.  
    3. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS, or equivalent OBD-II compliant scan tool.
    4.  
    5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and wait 2 seconds.
    6.  
    7. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant temperature reaches 194 °F (90 °C).
    8.  
    9. Let the engine idle about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed.
      NOTE
      If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes.

  5. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
